Mission: Episode 17 - Crystal of Life
Location: USS Galileo-A - Deck 3, Operations Manager's Office
Timeline: MD -181, 0800 hrs

[ON]

Mimi sat in the chief Ops office with a Padd in hand going over the key details of the mission and thinking about what to say to her staff. She was nervous, this being the first time all the eyes of the department would be looking at her for command.

After a little more reading she took a breath and tapped her combadge =/\= All operations team leaders report to the main office.=/\=

It wasn't long -- only a matter of minutes -- before the first of the Operations staff began to arrive at the designated office. The door swished open and in stepped a tall, dark-haired Betazoid crewman alongside a more eccentric-looking Risian male with petty officer pips adorning his collar.

"Sir."

"Sir," they both acknowledged to the acting operations manager.

Vansen had heard the message with a groan, his head still throbbing from the party. But he had managed to get there for the call. He hadn't had much of a chance to get ready but at least his medication had kicked in. The stubble and hastily thrown on uniform had to be excused.

He made his way to the Operation's Manager's Office. He smiled weakly as he saw Amul, who he had exchanged a handful of words with and instantly liked and then gave a nod to Ubax, who he had seen around but not yet gotten to talk to. "Sir," he said as he met Mimi's eyes, moving to stand with the others, closing his eyes for a moment. At least he was sober. Now that was a miracle and a half after the party.

Mimi took a deep breath. "Thank you all for coming, first I want to say that I did not really expect to be running the department but I will do my best at the job."

Vansen watched Mimi at the words, giving her a small smile and a nod. It was almost reassuring to know that the acting Chief hadn't expected this. He regretted nodding a second later as his head throbbed in a reminder of last night.

"Now I know most of you have read through the specs but I will go over a few key things. The ship is more powerful than an original Nova so all the power systems have been upgraded to handle the output, gel packs have replaced the old isolinear system. Most of the other systems are the same, transporters, replicators, environmental systems so getting familiar with them should be easy enough."

"Sir," chimed up the dark-eyed Betazoid, Reexio. "What about the power fluctuations on deck two? It's still affecting the environmental systems and we almost lost atmosphere in the lounge after going to warp yesterday."

"You have not found the source of the problems yet?" Mimi asked, the problem had been around for a couple of days now. "Constantin, can you take your team and help? Maybe a fresh set of eyes will help find the problem."

"Yes ma'am," Vansen nodded and smiled gently as he watched him. "Although they will be fresher once the party is out of my system," he added with a small chuckle, glancing over at the others. It was clear on how he looked how hungover he was, it would be rude to admit anything else.

"Team assignments for this weeks shifts." Mimi handed some Padds out. "Nothing too hard for all of us."

Amul and Ubax both took the PADDs and started to look through the Operations department's duty shift rota. It looked standard enough to not elicit any complaints from either of them.

Vansen looked at his, reading it for a moment before he smiled. "Good, I like new ships being relatively easy..." he said lightly, but more to himself.

Mimi paused for a moment and checked her Padd "Now for our mission itself, our group of ships are going to a starbase called Regula One somewhere near the Mutara nebula, I say somewhere as the real location is classified, it will take us six months to reach it."

Silence ensued while blank stares came from a couple of the petty officers. "Huh? Six months..?" asked one of them with now-wide eyes.

"Six months." Mimi repeated. "Six months at warp six. All we should have to do is keep the ship running and make sure we do not run out of anything important before the supply ship fills us back up."

"And the supply ship's estimated rendezvous is?" Vansen asked, already bringing up their current inventory of what supplies they had. He did not take into account replicating things, he was looking at the items they had already that they could use should replicators be off limits. Worse case scenarios on crucial parts.

"The Lagrange is part of our group." Mimi replied, it was strange that Constantin had asked as he had been on the bridge when they met the other ships in the convoy. "Once a month she will resupply all the ships with fuel and I am told she is carrying a large amount of spare parts and equipment just in case."

"Ah.." Vansen grimaced as the ship name was mentioned and gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry. I am...not at my best right now thanks to the party." No excuse, but an explanation.

"What other starships are we traveling with?" asked Amul, the Risian petty officer. Curiosity edged across his thoughts and now we wanted to know everything about this new transit.

"Three Starfleet ships." Mimi replied. "The Kali an Akira, the Trial a Miranda and the Solaris a Steamrunner class."

Vansen nodded as he looked over at Amul before he grinned. "So we already know we're much better than all of them put together," he said almost playfully.

Amul rolled his eyes and nodded, looking up as if it were obvious. "Of course. No one volunteers for a frontier mission who isn't good. Or crazy."

"It's apparently a narrow line between insanity and brilliance...we will find out where we fall," Vansen smiled before he looked over at Mimi.

"Six months is a long time to be doing the same jobs over and over again." Mimi said as she looked across her staff. "But we have to train and be ready for anything that could happen. Now are there any questions?"

When none came she let out a little sigh of relief. "Then you are all dismissed."
