Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: USS Galileo - Mess Hall
Timeline: MD -5: 0530 Hours

[ON]

It was the morning after Calin came aboard the Federation starship Galileo. His chronometer alarm woke him at zero-five hundred hours precisely, at which point he got up, made his bed, showered, dressed, all before leaving his quarters enroute to the mess hall. While his quarters possessed basic niceties like a food replicator, the lack of windows discouraged him from taking his meal there. Nor was he sure precisely how well his roommate, Ensign Lia Grae, would appreciate new unwelcome aromas this early in her morning.

As it was still a few hours from the start of Alpha shift, Calin found the mess hall largely vacant. Only a few officers and enlisted personnel were present. Calin proceeded to the nearest replicator and ordered spiced Plomeek broth and tea. Finding an empty table was not difficult, so he took one nearest the observation window.

Keval was an early morning person, he had been for as long as he could remember. Even though he was off-duty today, he maintained his daily routine. After a short, two-mile run and a shower, he headed to the mess hall to grab himself some porridge and toast.

Dressed in a pair of navy sweat pants and a white tee shirt, he walked in and found himself a seat.

Calin glanced up at a sudden arrival. "Greetings," he added unemotionally.

"Good morning," the Andorian responded, "how are you today?"

"I am well," Calin answered before trying to think of what might be an appropriate thing to say or ask so that the pause didn't last too long. He knew how... awkward... silence could make humans. "And yourself?"

Keval smiled, "I'm doing okay too thanks. You must be new."

"Might I inquire as to how you attained such a conclusion?" Calin inquired.

Keval smiled slightly, "Well, it's only logical This is a small ship, I haven't seen you around before, we're on shore leave at a Starbase, which is when many new people arrive."

Calin nodded, recognizing that his previous question had been more the result of possessing a background in investigations than anything else. "A logical assessment. My name is Ensign Calin. While aboard, I will be serving as the Galileo's Special Investigations Officer. And you are?"

"Keval zh'Erinov, 'I'm an operations officer."

"I see." Calin replied. Another silence stretched. "Do you have any information as to our present assignment?"

Keval shook his head slightly, "Sorry, sadly, no. I am as much in the dark as you. Unless you know something I don't."

"I do not," Calin said flatly, almost sounding as though he were disappointed to see another source of information dry up. Then again, both he and Keval were junior officers. Credible intelligence would lay with the senior staff. "I suppose, as the term is, 'we are in the dark together'."

The smallest of smiles turned up the corner of Keval's mouth, before he returned to a more neutral expression. "I think being in the dark together with you would be rather an enjoyable experience," he deadpanned.

Calin gave Keval an inquisitive look. "And why is that?"

The Andorian's right antennae curled backwards slightly, "Well, I was being facetious, but you are a good looking guy," he answered.
