Mission: Episode 10 - Symposium
Location: USS Galileo - Counselor's Office
Timeline: MD10 - 1030 Hours

[ON]

Gyce was not thrilled with the next part of her investigation. Counselors that did not work with the justice system on a regular basis, did not understand a lot of the rules. This meant that Gyce had to get permission from Lieutenant Jynn and inform the counselor that their session would be filmed as part of a possible State exhibit.

The security chief had to steel herself a moment before she tapped the chime to Dru's office. She was not in the mood for another chess match, though Gyce prepared herself for that outcome.

Dru looked up from the file in her hand as a look of confusion passe through her eyes. Looking back towards her calender, she noted that she still had the next two hours segmented off and hadn't been expecting anyone. With the crew now on shore leave i meant that unexpected drop-ins were few and far between. No one wanted to be locked in the office with a counsellor when they could be out enjoying themselves instead.

Pressing her thumb against the PADD screen, Dru locked away the information she had been reading before activated the doors controls on her desktop, allowing the person outside to enter. "What can I d..." Her words trailed off as recognition crossed through her mind, followed by confusion as she hadn't imagined the woman voluntarily returning to her offices anytime soon. "Lieutenant Gyce, is everything ok?"

"Bajorans list their surnames first, given second," Gyce corrected gently as she came in and sat a PADD on Dru's desk. "That is a request for you to evaluate and determine if Lieutenant Jynn is a sexual predator, or if his transgressions are well and truly an anomaly brought from severe enough depression, that he'd have a diminished capacity."

Straight and to the point, for which Gyce also sat another PADD down in front of her. "This PADD is to inform you that this session is to be recorded, much like having an old school two-way mirror. Your findings will be presented to me, so I can compile and determine my findings in one report - Which will go to the Command Staff."

One might of thought Gyce was done at this point, of not for the fact she quickly dropped another PADD. "And this is an official gag order, explaining the severity and nature of the crime Lieutenant Jynn has confessed to, and why it would be important for you not to speak about this case beyond the Command Staff and myself."

Dru raised an eyebrow at the woman's abruptness towards her and her use of words. This was the first she'd heard of the situation and as such, she took her time briefing through the information on both PADDs. "Care to explain what precisely has occurred to warrant such an extreme labelling of Jynn? Sexual predator or sever enough depression to result in diminished responsibility? Whatever has occurred a person still deserves some respect unless he has done something to you personally."

"Me trying to get him off on Diminished Capacity - if possible - is me respecting his wishes," Gyce corrected the counselor. "This is a male sentient with no priors. No notes whatsoever in his file, but he randomly confesses to breaking his oath of celibacy, which by his government's rules and ours ejects him from the fleet as a sexual predator. That is, unless we prove his motives were not malicious or premeditated."

Gyce could not believe she was having a conversation about law with the woman but decided to sit down and brief her all the same.

"Diminished Capacity ensures he has a guilty verdict without ejection from the fleet, and without a Section 8 or other mental impairment label in his record," Gyce finished with a note of sympathy. "I feel this guy has a good heart but made what you and me see as 'Human Error' and if the evidence compiled around him tells the story of a severely depressed male that isn't thinking clearly, as his roommate suggested to me... he'll not be exiled from his people or dishonorably discharged."

Moving through the notes, Dru brought up the notes of the sexual encounters which had been recorded. "Have the women he has been in sexual contact with also been interviewed? Has the level of their involvement with Jynn been established?"

"Lieutenant Jynn confessed to me that he loves Doctor Voutilainen," Gyce seemed skeptic at that. "His species feel and embrace every emotion ten times what you and I do, so I am not sure if it is genuine love or lust, as they got together fairly fast. But regardless, he has taken two to bed. The other is that Deltan nurse and one I know very little about, nor is there any sort of conversation been made by Commander Stace to the nurse... the doctor has, and Commander Stace noted her acting rather odd. We can assume it might be because of her intimate contact with Lieutenant Jynn."

"But another important element needs to be established here..." Looking up from the notes, Dru studied Gyce a little closer as she tried to get a read on the other woman. "Did rape occur here or was the other party mutually involved? It also plays a party in Jynn's behavior and breech of his oath."

Curious, that Dru would ask Gyce this question. Did Dru think Gyce daft? Because the Bajoran would not even be looking for a light set of charges on Jynn if that had occurred. It was not exactly a subject to pry into either, for Gyce just as quickly moved past that deduction.

"It was mutual," Gyce answered fairly quickly. "Mutual or not, the Deltan government don't take likely to oath breakers. It might not be a bad idea to get a psych eval on Doctor Voutilainen as well... Not for a case, but at least to see how bad the damage is from their pairing. I believe I'd have to get the CMO to authorize it, since I don't have to means to order it myself."

Shaking her head, Dru gave her opinion on that matter quite frankly. "Nobody will be forced to step past my doors where there is no necessity. I know Doctor Voutilainen...if I feel it's warranted I will approach the chief medical officer myself. I have the information I need in this...Jynn did not force anyone to do anything. It's already beginning to seem like a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and acting on instinct rather than rational."

"He is confined to quarters, so would you like a detail to bring him to you? Or do you wish to go to him?" Gyce asked, her posture more relaxed now.

Closing over the PADD screen, Dru stacked both PADDs together as she considered her options. "I think that I will go to him. Relaxed settings can act in my favor sometimes, allow me to get that bit closer to my patients and gain their confidence. This isn't an interrogation...it trying to get to the root of a problem and finding a way back from it."

"Which is what he needs," Gyce agreed, shocked to see she and Dru were on the same wave length. "Cases don't always go the way we want them... But with the Prophets' help, maybe we'll see the end both of us want for these two goobers."

Dru raised an eyebrow at Gyce's words, as she studied the woman a little more closely. Perhaps the woman was beginning to soften, there might be hope yet for her. "We will see. There's no point trying to predict when no one knows how things will end up. Let's just try see if we can put pieces together and create a foundation which works for us all."

"Thank you," Gyce nodded appreciatively, and walked out of the office. How this meeting did not end in a debate, baffled her.
