Mission: Episode 09 - Empires
Location: Akkadian ship Lightdancer
Timeline: MD05: Time 2200

ON:

It was late ship's time on the IKS Salaam. However, what was time, even Gerrin the one time artist had learned that time was a sort of relative thing and which time indeed. He did not quite understand it all, he left that to others which had longed delved into the mysteries of the universe.

The small device on his belt vibrated slightly and he took a deep breath. There was an Akkadian ship out there, or even next to this one or even a hundred light years away. A Fold Ship, one of those things that could cross an ocean of galaxies in a mere blink of an eye. That was one thing, but the principle it worked on also allowed it to be slightly out of phase in a different dimension and time.

Gerrin figured that it was out there right now not far for the ship he was on but phased away to avoid detection. It was better than any cloaking that had been thought up by either this alliance or the one they faced. Those relied upon using means to reflect the space around themselves, the Akkadian ship instead just did not exist quite in this dimension and time. It was another thing that would be titanic advantage to whomever if any Akkadia allied with.

He took a very deep breath. One of those breaths that went into the very bones as the air sacs that resided there filled and emptied. He did not like the transition, no one did as it seemed that one was pulled inside out as he would be transitioned from this space-time to another. He closed his eyes.

There was that wrenching pull and he gasped and coughed violently as a different floor and scene unfolded.

"It is unfortunate to have to put you through that, I wish it was not so." Came a feminine voice that was as cool as a northern breeze.

Gerrin knew immediately that voice. The Guild Mother of Warraquim was here and as his eyes focused he took in her form. The woman was beautiful, there was no doubt about that and the black hair streaked with blue and the sapphire faceted eyes reminded him so much of his own lost love. He made a deep bow. "Mother," he said firmly, politely and deference.

"No time for formalities here Gerrin," She replied. "That ship seems to be in a sudden hurry and thus it would seem time is of the essence."

Gerrin straightened and nodded in the affirmative. "I noted the change but not why. They are savages Mother. Still from what I have surmised they are not quite as aggressive in their expansion as their Terran opponents. One climbs and falls, then the other and back and forth. Forgive me Mother but it reminds me so much of our own past."

"Until Warraquim finally conquered the rest of the Houses?" Guild Mother responded.

"Yes." Gerrin said again with that polite voice. "While it was messy, in the end it left us united. Even an artist can see harmony in that composition."

"And yet harmony between these two factions is still not there is it?" She asked moving closer.

"No, Mother I fear it is not. I see nothing good until they find compromise or until one is completely and utterly destroyed. Compromise seems far away, there is so much history of hatred and retribution..."

"So one should be destroyed and thus end the problem. The question then lies should be side with one or the other and unleash the A'ksu upon them?" Guild Mother pondered.

Gerrin with his own green eyes looked into the Guild Mother's and he said firmly, "It would be like me throwing away half my paints. What composition would be left?"

The Guild Mother of Warraquim looked hard at him and then smiled. It was full and genuine. "Ah, it is the artist that sometimes sees what the rest cannot. Then we wait and watch. Well before you are missed then we must send you back."

Gerrin made again that deferential bow. "Yes Mother."

"Then back to your watch Gerrin," Guild Mother said and turned away. "Allyndra would have been proud of your wisdom."

The name went through his hearts and he stiffened. He then let the words sink in and there was a small glow of feeling of the truth of them and a small smile played on his lips.

"In service," he said just before vanishing back to the IKS Salaam.
