Mission:
Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 09 - 0700 hrs
ON:
Jaana entered sickbay holding a big white stuffed bear with a very adorable pink bow around his neck. She had heard Tuula's special naked delivery story and decided to pay the new mum and baby a visit before her shift.
Still somewhat dazed at the night's adventure, T'Vanna sat up in her bed, cradling her newborn daughter. Carefully she traced the baby's lightly tipped ear, watching her reaction. Her almost black eyes which were still holding a note of blue as any newborn did and her slightly slanted eyebrows.
The Vulcan woman smiled, then looked up as her sharp hearing picked up approaching footsteps. She blinked in surprise. "Did you change appearance overnight doctor?" she asked.
Jaana laughed. "Even if she did, I don't believe she could have learned to walk in just a few hours." she replied. Stepping closer she continued. "I'm Jaana. Tuula's twin sister. I hope I'm not to early but I just wanted to congratulate you with the birth of your daughter. And meet my sister's name sake."
"Ahhh, I see now," T'Vanna replied, shifting the baby on her arm to extend her right hand towards her. "T'Vanna," she introduced herself, then nodded down at the infant. "And Emmaline."
Jaana smiled at the lovely little baby. Then handed the bear to T'Vanna. "A little present. Where do you want me to put it?"
"Little?" T'Vanna eyed the white bear. "That's almost bigger than Emmaline..." Yet she smiled brightly. "Just put it anywhere, it's very friendly of you to bring something. Especially since we'd not met before. You're not a doctor too, are you?"
"Not jet, I'm working on it." she said as she put the bear on the bedside table. "I'm in Science, Stellar Cartography to be exact." She couldn't stop looking at the little one. "When Tuula told me you gave birth only two days after arriving, I just had to come by and offer my support. If you ever need it. From one newby to another."
"That's very kind of you." She gestured to a seat, then to the infant in her arms. "Want to hold her?"
"I'd love to hold her." she walked closer to the biobed.
Carefully, T'Vanna lifted the fragile and tiny body up. "Be careful please...." she said, unnecessarily as she handed her daughter over. "She seems to like to be cradled."
"Of course I'm careful." She reassured the young mother as she took the baby from her. Emma started complaining softly from being removed from her mothers warm arms. "She is so beautiful." she said as she hold the child to her chest.
"That she is," the young mother agreed, her eyes shining brightly with pride and emotion. "And so small, I'm really afraid I might break her."
"I don't think you will, they aren't made of sugar" Jaana said as she traced the baby's little nose with her finger. "You are really blessed."
"Sugar?" she arched an eyebrow at the other woman, watching the little girl twitch in her arms. "I'm not sure how I am blessed... I was made pregnant, and I carried her for nine months. I cherish her, but I don't feel blessed."
She chuckled. "I'm sorry, It's a saying." she thought for a while. "I think it can be best explained as that you are lucky that you have such a beautiful infant."
"Nothing to do with luck. All babies are beautiful, from a mother's point of view." She held out her arms again. "We should probably rest for a bit now, she'll want to feed again soon. Maybe, you could come back later?"
"Yes, offcourse." she handed the baby back in her mothers arm after giving her a kiss on her forehead. "I have to get started with work anyway."
"Thank you for your visit," T'Vanna said as she lifted the baby back into her cot. "I hope to return to duty soon too."
"Take your rest while you can, you'll need it later." Jaana said as she picked up her jacket from the chair. "I'll see you later."
