Abbey waited impatiently, fidgeting and playing with her nails. "Gods Where are you!" She moaned to herself as she waited for her fathers shuttle to arrive. She was one of the first through the doors and the last to leave. Abbey had been waiting for her father for a few hours now and yet he still hadn't arrived. She was starting to doubt herself.

All these years she guessed that she would be the one her father would be eagerly anticipating the return of. She was always the risk taker, the rebel and the one getting in trouble. He constantly reminded her that one day he wont be there and wont be able to pick her up of the floor every time she done wrong. "Abbey, if you keep going on this course you are following one day you may find yourself to far gone and I wont be able to pick you up" His words echoed throughout her mind over and over, every second they spent together, every time they argued and every time he left her.

The past few weeks had been both mentally and physically strenuous on her, with the passing of her mum and then the news that her dad was missing in action things began to really hit home. Its hard to imagine what you have until its gone. After she stopped blaming herself she blamed everyone else and when that didn't work she simply broke down and cried herself to exhaustion. Its hard to loose someone to death and so soon, you don't realise how quick it takes until you can barley remember someones face or how they spoke. All you have is memories and even they would eventually fade but Abbey was resilient she tried to keep her mum alive in thought, her father to.

It was late when she received the news, Abbey had spent the day working in the station science labs blissfully unaware of the events light years away. "I'm sorry to inform you Miss Wyatt, your father's ship the Venture was destroyed. We do however have reports that escape pods were launched but we have no further information, you should prepare for the worst" Said the intelligence officer, "Liar! My dad cant be dead.. he cant!" She bashed the chest of the older man twice before he managed to grab her arms flushing the fight from her system, now she found herself sobbing into his chest. "He cant, he just cant She repeated, muffled by his uniform. That instant she couldn't have cared if the entire world exploded for that moment she was truly alone.

The next day Abbey awoke, it seemed she wasn't the only one told the news as when she walked into the science labs Saria Rex the Chief of science looked at her sadly "I'm Sorry Abbey you father was a great..." Abbey eyes raged with fire how could her best friend be saying that "My father is not dead! He, He is alive!" Once again the all to familiar tears rolled down her cheeks leaving shiny residue in its wake before Saria replied Abbey turned and walked away, she needed to be alone no one or no thing was going to deny her the possibility that her father was still alive.

It took three hours for Kato and counsellor Mackenzie to fine her in one of the maintenance shafts of the outer ring. Reluctantly she returned to her room and spoke for what seemed hours with the counsellor, crying and laughing. It was the oddest of experiences. Eventually they both left and Abbey once again was alone, she hated how the way the light reflected through the window off of passing starships and despite that sound didn't couldn't travel through space she could swear she could hear each individual ship. Everything about the room sparked memories of her parents even if they weren't close they still loved each other even if they didn't and wouldn't admit it.

Days passed and Abbey found that she had become more distant from her studies eventually she stopped all together, ignoring calls and messages she redecorated twice and even tried bartering with a ferengi to help her find her dad but all in all she just had to wait and "Prepare for the worst". She couldn't explain why she was reacting worst with her fathers death, her mother didn't receive the same emotional response. Counsellor Mackenzie had said it was because there was no closure that there was a chance he could be out there fit and well. Not knowing, That's always worst than knowing. It always been the worst thing in life that's why the federation was created, to know, two explore, we are naturally curious people and not knowing things worries us and even scares us or in Abbeys case completely and utterly mess' up her lively hood.

Checking the time again Abbey could see that it had now been far to long standing up she sighed, "Maybe I missed him" She said to herself gruffly, picking up her bag from the floor and slinging it precisely over her shoulder. Making her way to the do she heard the tell tale sounds of air decompression from the doors hydraulic system opening. Turning her heart stopped.

In the door stood a man whose figure was slightly distorted from the bright background of lights, she could just about make out his brown and ginger hair, his lips that curled upright into the perfect smile Abbey didn't even notice her bag sliding across the room as she ran forward and into the arms of her father. He tried to explain himself "Sorry I'm Late I was..." Abbey squeezed tighter "Just shut up! Just, shut up" she said crying but not tears of sadness but tears of overwhelming joy.
