Personal Log, SD67838.8

Posted on 31 Mar 2016 @ 12:33am by Ambassador Caymen Greener

313 words; about a 2 minute read

"Computer, begin log."

*chirp*

"The Nova-class is small, although I always liked small vessels. Reminds me of my more personal ship I had back in my Starbase and Ambassadorial days. That August ship was a Nova variant, affixed for speed and defense rather than research.

"But I digress - it's good to be in the stars. I mean, I did have a run to the Klingon-Romulan borderworlds for a dispute. That was not easy, especially with a Ferengi and a Betazoid there. But it was indeed good warmup, which is what the Federation Diplomats wanted from me.

"And now I'm on a more permanent assignment, and it feels good. And to boot, my quarters are quite nice. I half-expected to stay in the bunk I was temporarily assigned when I first boarded. If I had friends - never been one for friends - I'd throw a small party."

*sigh and pause*

"The cabin... the trees... the scents of camp fire and pine wood needles... the sounds of birds and insects and critters... the quiet creeks of a settling old home... the smell of a tobacco pipe. I miss them of course, and I will definitely return when the ship makes its next shoreleave. But that has been my past, and will likely be my distant future. For now, I am here.

"Bring on the stars, the planets, the friends, the foes, the dissidents, the problem children. Bring on the problems and the solutions we will undoubtedly find. Because that's the Starfleet and Federation way - we find a way to make things work. And if by peace we can do so, that's mainly why I'm here I suppose."

*pacing around the room*

"Then again there are so many brilliant officers that surround me. My job will be easy with them at my side. That I can already tell."

*audible chuckle*

"Computer, end log."
