Letters Home #1

Posted on 21 Feb 2016 @ 8:24pm by Ensign Calvin Henderson

312 words; about a 2 minute read

After a long shift and finally getting to the gym (a secret passion of Calvin's) he retired to his bunk. Removing his t-shirt he sprawled out face first onto his cool covers which welcomed him with a chilly embrace that thrilled his skin. Grabbing his PADD from under his pillow Calvin checked the status of the scans he had running, the computer analysis of a few surveys he was trialing and any messages.

It had been some time since he sent a message home and would think now was an appropriate time to do so.

=/\= Computer, begin recording. Address it to my mother and send on any available and open subspace band when done. =/\=

'Hi Mom,

Calvin here, as if you can't guess. Hope this message finds you well. I know you will be out and about so thought I would send a message you could pick up at your convenience.

I'm getting settled into my posting. A lot of the people here are really nice. Even if most people have actually ran me over in the process of saying hello. There are times I think I must just blend in or something.

Before you ask, yes, I have seemed to keep my anxiety under control for now. I think as I get to know more people though, that may ease. Something about this ship seems to relax me. I think, even though you would think close quarters such as this would set it off, but there is comfort in knowing there are people around. There is a real community spirit here. Not to mention, my roommate is quite handsome. I know you will like that. Wanting to marry me off and all.

Anyway, I think it is time I get some sleep.

Take care and I hope to hear from you soon.

Love and hugs.'

=/\= Computer, end recording and send =/\=
