Chief Science Officer's Log
Stardate: 67642.3

I have settled in to the position of Chief Science Officer, and have even met my counterpart in the Chief of Research...nice fellow, if a bit civilianized.

Also met my Assistant, LT JG Lucero (still no idea how to pronounce that...Luck-a-row? Loose-a-row? Loo-Care-oh?). If I'm honest with myself, I'm a little intimatated by him. He is after all the senior man in SCIDEP, by rights the position of CSO should have gone to him...yet here I am, the usurper claiming his kingdom. He and I seem to get along alright so far, but I wonder if he secretly has some hidden resentment boiling under the surface.

I also am intimated by this vessel; as a pure research vessel, she is outfitted with the latest in technology and scientific devices, so much so that I do not even know some of their functions. This is currently hour four of pouring over documents and manuals on their use and functionality so as to not make myself look like an ass in front of my men...why did I not pick something useful to major in at the academy, like physics?

Best I can is the best I can do, I guess; try to take care of the men and learn what I dont know and pass on what I do.

On a last note, I'm on the fence about our TF Admiral...she is competant and personable enough, but God help me she's pretty; when I went to meet her, I think her phermone injections had started to wear off...I started to get sweats, and the thoughts I had...

Thank God for cold showers...
