A Long Awaited Letter

To the Captain of the USS Utanu;

May this reach you safely and warmly, as I expect many speed bumps along the way. I have heard the good news-finally, I bet-and I could not be more proud of you. As you are well aware, our travels have taken us to areas that are much farther than they should be-I was just promoted, though by the time this communique reaches you, I suspect I'll have had that ripped from me in some manner in another.

You know me, I just cannot keep my mouth shut.

I will always say you were a much better diplomat than I ever hoped to become. Your skills have earned you such a rank, after all. It may be tedious, all that paperwork, but the rest of the position is not one to be taken lightly. I have to say that I am proud of you and what you've become over the many years we have known each other.

What I find surprising is that you're requesting for me to join your merry crew. I have to say, I had thought the Galileo was going to be the vessel I was going to live out the rest of my tenure on and retire from. I felt a great deal of respect from the staff, and I was free to research the anthropological subjects I chose. We've run into Cardassians, and are about to encounter Klingons.

I do know how much you love Klingons.

However, I find that your offer is overly enticing. As much as I would like to stay on the Galileo, I feel waters are... choppy, at best. And, I would be lying if I said I did not want to see you in person again.

I can draw up official paperwork on the matter quite soon, but consider this an official acceptance to join the crew of the USS Utanu as Chief Diplomat. It would be an honor to serve with you once more, Commander Takeshi.

Sincerely,
Lyras Ueda
