"Well I think I have mentioned before the tale of the Lovers, the ones we refer to as the Twins. How the gods grew jealous of the two lovers and decided to punish by separating them in the sky. Instead of their love dying it grew greater and greater until their love shone with a fierceness that lit the heavens and put the gods to shame. In that shame how one goddess decried that when the Lock and Key aligned that the lovers could kiss.
I think I have mentioned the Queen of Night's promise on how another took the moon and refashioned it to make a titanic ring that the gods would not do anything like that again.
All simple child's tales. I used to hate them for they were silly little things to tell children and how they just described phenomena. The funny thing is I seem to have taken an interest in our own tales and stories of late.
One particular one is called H'au Kaimene, the Snow Girl or princess. Like all good tales it seems to have taken place a long time ago. Anyway, here goes.
Araylinda was a pretty girl, and she was the actual child of the Guild Mother of Lanalai. Those who tended the Trilleum spiders and wove the garments of the special silk. Araylinda was loved by all and she made friends easily and always found a kind word. Besides her friends and learning the ways of her Guild there was nothing she loved to do more than to take to the skies and fly, fly as far as she could.
Araylinda especially loved to Storm ride. That is, when one of the frequent rains would come in, she would fly along the storm front and let the great updrafts take her far into the sky and distant along the ground.
It is a dangerous sport for one can easily get slammed by a sudden downdraft or sucked into the maelstrom of the actual storm itself where the violent currents can shred wings. To those though that master the technique it can be like nothing else in the world.
Well one day a particularly strong storm was coming in. The dark clouds piling one on top of the other out at sea and reaching high as though to touch the Lovers themselves. One could already feel the leading edge of rain and the gusts of cool air as it approached and wiped the sea into frothing foam. Araylinda watched from the balcony of her room and her hearts beat with delight as the storm approached. This was a monster of a storm and it could take her higher then she had ever been before.
Spreading her wings she prepared to take off with her friends telling her that this one was too dangerous. Araylinda only laughed and shook off their hands. "I must, the wind calls to me." So without much more thought Araylinda lept from the balcony and caught the air and flew toward the storm.
She found her place at the very front and soared along the great welling currents of air. Higher and higher she went, until the air itself began to thin. She laughed as she climbed though the storm threatened many times to ruin her flight, she fought off each attempt.
'Do your worse!" Araylinda shouted at the clouds. "I can out fly you and out dance you on the air.: What Araylinda did not know was that deep within the storm Mother I'nio, Mother Storm, was watching and listening. "
Allydnra paused in her telling and then figured this was a good a spot as any to stop.
