Butterfly Mind

578 words; about a 3 minute read

"Something's going on down there, and I don't like it..."

Siren rested her chin in her hand as she made her log, sipping the 'vodka' with a sigh. She frowned, her eyes slightly narrowed as she mused on the subject.

"Me and Amynta are working our way through the information we lifted from the Agent, but it's slow work. Half of it's encrypted with Cardassian codes, the other half is a load of numbers, fragments and gobbledygook."

Siren sat back with a sigh, shaking her head as she refilled her glass, her long, red hair swaying with the movement where she was half draped over the chair in casual clothes rather than her uniform.

"We'll get there," she said with an almost warning tone, even though she was only talking to the computer recording her. "We'll figure out what's going down on that jinxed hunk of rock."

Siren closed her eyes as she knocked her drink back, enjoying the synthetic burn with a sigh. "Oh well, who cares...." she tossed the glass back onto the desk.

"I don't...cos I'm getting married...." Siren lifted her arms in the air, her body half dancing with the sing song way she said the words, her smile virtually a grin.

"Okay, so maybe I'll be really crap at it. In fact, I probably will be. I mean, I know nothing about family. I was brought up in a gang, and no one gets married where I'm from. If you're a girl you just belong to one of the guys and whoever breaks that line kind of gets dead," she shrugged, but the smile remained, bright. "But who cares, cos I'm getting married!"

She laughed warmly, draping her legs over the arm of the chair as she watched the screen recording her, crossing her legs at the knee. "Part of me worries. I mean, Lirha's an Orion, and...well...I don't know how happy she'll be just with one woman. And I....kind of...maybe...get a little bit jealous when the person I'm with gets attention from someone else..." she pursed her lips, thinking on it. "But hey, she asked me, I'm not going to second guess her. I trust her to know what she wants. Life's too short and full of a million problems without creating your own before they even happen."

Siren smiled warmly as she sighed, arching back over the other arm of the chair, stretching out. "I guess this means I get to pick a dress? I'm not big on dresses...I'm a shorts and trousers kind of girl. Ah...maybe I should get married in a black leather catsuit, see if that gets her attention..."

Siren smiled as she thought about it before suddenly laughing. "Oh who am I kidding, no one will be paying attention to what I'm wearing...all eyes will be on Lirha....in something...shiny...short...small..." she sighed softly, shaking her head.

"Does this mean we get a 'honeymoon'?" she wondered out loud, her leg swinging lightly with a small smile to herself. "Hmmm....swimming in the midnight moonlit sea...." she laughed before shaking her head, covering her face with her hands.

"No, I was meant to be talking about work..." she laughed at herself, straightening up and sighing before clearing her throat seriously. "Right. Well, Cardassians are still cunning, secretive little suckers...mines are dark and scary....I'm never crossing Amynta Markos....and I can't wait to leave this place...."
