Personal Log, Stardate 67132.4.

"The first weeks of assignment to the Galileo have been surprisingly eventful given that the ship is undergoing refit in drydock. Thus far I seem to be well-received among my crewmates; I've met with the commodore, captain, executive officer, department head and several others. I believe I have even gone so far as befriending Dr. Allyndra, the department head, and Lieutenant Miir, a young caitian from the counseling department.

"I question the status of the latter at the moment after an unsuccessful surgery detailed in the Assistant Chief Medical Officer's log. Unmentioned in that log was a forward comment I made about Mr. Miir's mental health status. I suggested that his holding on to survivor's guilt over the Borg implants giving him life was selfish. Even if we didn't have a fundamental disagreement over the implants and their emotional implications, I'm not sure he would even be in a state to give my opinions fair consideration. Or, perhaps more to the point, they're so unhelpful from his perspective that they aren't deserving of consideration at all.

"As welcoming of other cultures as Bolians may be, it remains difficult to always fully understand them. Mr. Miir is holding on to a past event with a tenacity I've never really seen before; though to be fair, I don't often work with those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. As his physician I'm concerned about the long-term implications for his physical and mental health, which already seem to be deteriorating under the stress. In that regard, I'm speaking with mental health care professionals to explore the possibility of non-traditional therapies. More importantly, I am also concerned as his friend. It's difficult to see someone suffer and not try to offer a way out, even if it is ill-advised and heavy handed in its approach.

"Aside from my dealings with Mr. Miir, I have been appointed the chairperson of the planning committee for the Crecy-la-Chapelle Winter Festival. I consider it the highest honor I've received to date! I can hardly contain my excitement over the prospect of guiding the evolution of the festival this year. I've already enlisted the help of several acquaintances, and I believe this will be the most successful and spectacular festival the village has ever seen. I've not yet heard back from the President of the Federation; heads of state from Vulcan, Bolarus and Andoria; all 157 members of the Federation Council; and the Fleet Admirals at Starfleet Command regarding their attendance. However, I remain hopeful that positive responses are forthcoming.

"Additionally, I've concluded my contract with the Pasteur Institute working on the Inbriden drug for interspecies breeding. There's a great deal of work to be done, but I was very pleased when our little research team managed to clear one of the hurdles regarding the drug's efficacy. Privately, I'll admit the work was fun and stimulating, but I've never envisioned myself in the pharmaceutical industry. I believe firmly that I belong not only in space but also serving the men, women, and others in the Fleet.

"Finally, I am now preparing for a trip to Akkadia, the home system of Dr. Allyndra. It promises to be one of the more interesting trips of my life, and she and I have lined up a great deal of excitement both leisure and professional in nature.

"Computer, end log."
