"The trick of going into the atmosphere mostly worked. The probe managed to pick up a signal that we have determined is an underwater facility on the planet.
What is concerning is that the data is on what has been determined to be an older-style submarine beacon.
I'm concerned that something has happened to the facility. I'll brief the away team before we beam down.
The captain has also informed me that the marine specimen or part of one has expired. While this is unfortunate, its aggressiveness doesn't make me too sad.
I will admit that I'm going to find the thought of being that far underwater a little concerning. Hopefully, the facility is not too confined. I'm getting more and more used to confined spaces. Perhaps one day we will have a mission with everything floating in the air.
I hope that we can unravel what has happened without incident. It could be as simple as a breach in part of the facility that has drowned out part of the communications equipment.
I've left a note for the captain that when the ship entered the atmosphere, we encountered odd gravitational anomalies that we had no data on. Depending on how good the lock on the transporter is, we may need to descend again to ensure that we can beam that far underwater.
