Bonding

Posted on 01 Sep 2024 @ 8:29pm by Lieutenant JG Serran

515 words; about a 3 minute read

Theo didn't have any classes, nor did he have any other official duties. So, he'd decided to sleep in and not set any alarm. He was having a pleasant dream when he heard a voice calling his name.

"Theo, it's time to get up son. Remember we talked about this day before yesterday."

The teenager groaned as his dream faded away. Sadly for him, he could recall no details only that it had been back on his home before all the chaos started.

He put his head under his pillow and pleaded for a few more minutes of rest. But Serran was not in the mood to wait. He took the sheets and pulled them away from Theo's body

So, he rolled out from under the covers and stood to his feet, tossing on a shirt that while wrinkled was mostly clean.

"Tell me we're at least having breakfast before we do this."

"Of course we are. I know you're a teenager and always hungry. I too have an appetite. I made us fried egg sandwiches, I hope that is acceptable."

"You made me two?"

"I made us each three."

"Sweet," came the teenager's reply.

Half an hour later, the two had eaten and cleaned up after themselves. They made some small talk in the turbolift and arrived at the holodeck five minutes before their appointed time.

"So dad, what do you have planned for us?"

"I'm not going to give you all the details, that would spoil the fun, but I set the safety protocols at 80%. That's enough to
deliver some thrills without danger of getting either of us injured."

"That's cryptic."

"It was designed to be."

The doors opened as the man and his son walked through them. It took Theo a few minutes to realize where they were supposed to be. At Deep Space Six, or at least some deep space station.

He followed the Vulcan through a series of corridors until they arrived at the shuttle bay.

"Can you at least tell me where we are going?"

"Again that would spoil the surprise. I believe however that you will enjoy the experience."

"Do you want to try flying? Serran asked as they stepped into a shuttle that looked as though it had seen its better days."

"Really?"

"Yes, Theo, really. It will be like being in a simulator, at least at first. Easy Pesy is the correct Terran term. Spoiler alert though it won't stay that way."

Theo grinned as he took the pilot's chair. He had an idea of what was going to happen, he'd seen the programming his adopted father had been working on.

About fifteen minutes later the shuttle began to shimmy and shake.

"Is this supposed to happen?"

"Something is going wrong, but I designed it that way. Would you like me to take over?"

"Nope I got this," the teen responded.

The small ship was hit by disruptor fire as a Romulan Bird of Prey appeared on their starboard side.

Wordlessly, Theo moved to the co-pilot's sheet and motioned for Serran to take the helm.
