Captain's Log, Stardate 69348.5

"Galileo has tracked down the source of the intermittent tachyon emissions near the cold station. We're now engaged in a game of cat-and-mouse. Every time we close in on concentrations of particle emissions, they dissipate then reappear several thousand kilometers away. And so we chase then scan, then chase then scan...

"Thanks to our science team, we're narrowing down our search grid with each new evolution. Our sensors are collecting more and more data and refining it, decreasing our grid pattern after each movement. It's only a matter of time now before we isolate this...vessel. I'm not in the habit of speculating. But whatever this signature is, it possesses intelligence advanced enough to know it's being followed. In my book, that means it's something - likely someone - who doesn't want to be found.

"All hands remain at yellow alert and we're maintaining a defensive posture. I...wish this wasn't a Nova-class starship. She's adequately armed but can't survive in a standalone fight for long. Out here, in these sectors, there's no help for us. No reinforcements. Technically, we are the reinforcements for the cold station. Something about this doesn't feel right. But I won't bother the crew with my hunches and jeopardize what's left of their waning morale.

"End log."
