Finally!

Posted on 01 Mar 2019 @ 4:00am by Senior Chief Petty Officer Goldie Brown

477 words; about a 2 minute read

Goldie Brown was pleased that she was alone in her quarters. It had been a long day and she really should put in a personal log. She didn't want her roommates to hear her. Not that she had anything terribly private to say, but simply that she had NOTHING to say.

But today she'd give it a go. She replicated herself a martini, which wasn't the same thing as a real drink, but it was good enough, and sat in front of her computer console.

"Computer, start personal log."

When it beeped, she took a sip of her drink and giggled. "Petty Officer First Class Goldie Brown's Personal Log. Stardate... I haven't the foggiest idea. I've lost track of time over the last six long, boring months. I think it's Tuesday. Well, maybe it's Thursday. I don't know. I'll call it Tuesday anyway. I've always liked Tuesday."

She took another long drink. "Okay. So, as I said, for six months we were traveling in space. And nothing more. Oh, a few things broke, but for the most part, it was drills, drinking in the lounge, and working on my tan on the holodeck. I have a great tan, by the way. As good as I had back home on the beach. And my nail polish is this amazing shade of bronze that actually shimmers in the light. I've set it in the replicator as Goldie Bronze. I've also found this fabulous surfing program. I've improved a lot. And, since everyone else was too bored to use the holodeck, I had plenty of time for a number of programs. Some chick, a former pilot, had this pirate program, too. It's pretty interesting. I've only tried it once, but I may go back when things settle down again.

Oh, did I say it's busy now? Well, it is. Two colonies have disappeared. Completely gone. Science is running around like crazy, all excited because there's some volcanic eruption and something they call core material coming to the surface. All I know is that if someone wants to make a great end-of-the-world vid, they could use the images we've been recording. Nobody would believe this stuff is real, but it is.

I've been doing a lot of odd jobs around the ship, which is fine with me. My department head is nice. I admit I haven’t seen him much because of my schedule, but I have no complaints."

She went to the replicator and got herself another drink. "So, now everyone is eager to find out what happened. And then we'll go back to being bored. I think I'm going to take up disco. Or hula dancing. That could be fun. As long as I don't break a nail. Okay, that's it for now." She giggled again. "How do I end this thing anyway? Oh, yes. End log."
