Personal Log

I have recently been asked to take on the role of Lead Conn Officer here on the USS Galileo-A.

Flying or piloting has always been my passion. And over the last several years I’ve achieved great success in that endeavor. With my most recent assignment as Conn Officer, I had the opportunity to experience piloting crafts from different societies, some of which were mind blowing to say the least.

But now, I’m not just a pilot, but a Bridge Officer. With the recent withdrawal of the lead officer, this provided me the opportunity to step up and demonstrate my skills and knowledge that I gained while attending the Academy and the many months since then.

Some might say that I am passing a milestone; a landmark event or turning point in my carrier in Starfleet. As Lead Conn Officer, I will be responsible, not only for the safety of a starship and its crew by keeping the Ship where it belongs, but to also coordinate with the other officers in that position. In addition, I have been asked to organize and conduct ‘coordination training’ between Bridge Officers.

During tactical situations it is crucial that communication be clear and all parties understand the Command Officer in the same way. All must understand and obey the CO’s intent, without any confusion or cross-talk on the bridge, especially during a crisis. We must not only work as a team, but act as a single minded unit.

There-in lies my fear. Yes, I am Andorian, and proud of it. But now, I have to draw from training I took years ago. Performing a single task is one thing, however leading and organizing takes a different set of skills, but implementing them is another level of achievement.

Leading a group of people in a meeting and going over an agenda of topics will be difficult, in its own way, but I am confident that I will carry out the assigned tasks, learn from my successes and/or failures, and in the end become even a better officer.
