"This training cruise has turned out to be far more work than I had anticipated." Edward's eyes are recorded in computer memory with dark rings under them. It's clear that even the rigorous training of Starfleet Academy hadn't quite prepared him for a string of these kinds of days. "I've been up since," he paused, thinking, "around oh-three-hundred and it's coming up on around twenty-two-thirty. I'm exhausted. It's valuable experience, but it's far from a comfortable experience."

He pushed back his chair, and brushed his mussed hair off his forehead. "I've finally gotten the ship's systems back online, and most of the cadets have been asleep for about an hour now. If they aren't, I'll be surprised. Today was as stressful for them as for me. Well, maybe not quite that bad. I just hope our time at the next drill point will be less exhausting. I doubt it."

He stood and leaned over his desk. He reached out and tapped the console. "Computer, end log." With an exhausted sigh, he stripped out of his sullied uniform jacket and fell face-first into bed.
