He nodded considering the issue settled for now, but then frowned as he looked around. Sidi went back to all fours, but sat next to him. "Where are the kids?" he asked, "I wanted them to meet Sidi as well. He'd like them, I'm pretty sure of it. And kids should have dogs." He frowned, not knowing why he said that.

Ahndyl closed her eyes for a moment as she reached out and put her hands on either side of his waist. The solidness of him was always a balm to her, something she could always count on in her life. "I'm travelling so they're with..." she stopped for a moment to swallow the lump in her throat. "They're with family."

Jeremy nodded but looked around some more, maybe hoping she was just trying to surprise him. "I miss them so much. I wish I wasn't gone so much."

"They miss you, too," Ahndyl said then put a finger on his lips as he was about to speak again. "Jeremy, when was the last time you got a full night's sleep?" She recognized the signs here and where they were headed. It wasn't something she could allow. She couldn't let him hurt that way. She hated what had been done to him, but there were also some things she was grateful he couldn't remember.

He frowned as he flicked his wrist, but she put a hand over it. "If you don't remember on your own, then it's been too long." Her fingers trailed down his wrist and twined in his fingers. The tug wasn't hard, but didn't need to be. Walking softly, slowly, she led him toward the bedroom, the dog following. At the side of the bed, she turned. He watched her, his eyes hungry. "I miss you, Ahndyl," he said, his hands roaming her back, moving rough over her silken flesh. She felt the strength of desire in them, the long pent up frustration.

"I miss you too," she said, trying to hold back tears. "More than you'll ever know."

His thumbed away a tear. He flicked it to the floor, questioning her with his gaze. But as she tried to speak, to explain, he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers. She knew it was wrong, that there was a special place reserved in the Fire Caves for her if she didn't stop it but...he kissed her like a drowning man wanting salvation. He was hungry, famished, and she was a feast.

He pulled her close to him, letting her out for a single breath. The seconds seemed to go on forever, but his third and fourth kiss were even better, his hands lost all restraint and were across her body, flicking in areas he knew too well, stoking flames that long burned inside her. His eyes never looked so brown, never shone so bright and she was bound to hell but she didn't care. She pressed back against him, kissed him deeply, fulfilling a decade old desire.

"Ahndyl," he moaned as he turned her, ready to lay her out on the bed. She burned with him but it was that moan of need, that exclamation of more than just desire but of love and longing that stopped her. Crying openly, she pulled back, reaching for the hem of his sweatshirt and starting the upward journey. Her body turned to ice when his hands left her skin to finish removing the sweatshirt and she stepped forward, just to have a part of the heat directed at her once again. She tugged the shirt free of his sweats and started the process to remove it but his hands stopped hers.

"No," he said, quiet, broken and lost. "I don't...You shouldn't see...it's not..."

"It's okay, Jeremy," she said, still tugging the shirt upward. "I've already seen them. They're okay."

"I don't want you to know," he said, "to see what they did."

"It's okay, Jeremy," she said, "I already know. I was there."

He stood, silent, silent tears rolling down his face while he held her hands a little while longer, then slowly he started to take off the shirt. Ahndyl was prepared for the sight of the twisted flesh that lay underneath his clothes. The long, roping scars across his chest, abdomen, back, arms. She knew there were others as well, the ones on his face, the one that circled half his head. Those ones Starfleet Medical could fix, but they said these last ones, the ones covering his body...running down his chest like crooked, deranged waterfalls, past his groin, onto his legs. Those they weren't able - or willing - to fix. She kissed one long, thick roping scar that crossed his left nipple and under the pectoral and around to his back. She remembered watching the beating that gave that one to him, the repeated strikes from pointed boots. It was one of 'her' scars, one that she deserved. He got it trying to protect her.

She found another one, one that she knew almost killed him, but he kept telling her that he wouldn't die, that he'd stay to protect her. It had become infected. She still remembered the stink of it, the putrefaction that ran for weeks. She still didn't know how he had the strength to keep from dying. Another one here - when he tried to prevent another casual rape. This one under her fingers when he interfered to stop them from beating her again. So many of the scars were debts she owed.

"What's this?" she asked, looking at the bandage on his arm.

"Nothing," he said, "Doesn't matter. It's just...nothing."

He lifted her and put her on the bed, climbing atop her. Her resolve twisted as she pushed at the waistband of his sweats, pushing them down, letting him push up the hem of her dress and rip the flimsy cloth she wore underneath. She pulled his face down to hers, letting him feast to his fill on her kisses, her fingers digging into the muscles of his back while his lips moved from hers, down her neck. She moaned as his mouth closed over her, his fingers stopped caressing the inside of her thigh to stroking.
She cried as she knew she damned herself but he needed this as much as he needed anything else she's done for him. He may not want her, he may not love her, but he needed her and she would take it. His scarred, knotted flesh moved under her hands as she grabbed his buttocks, encouraging him to stop hesitating and take her.

It was Sidi, it was the dog, that became her salvation. He jumped up with them, placing a paw on Jeremy's exposed, scarred back. Jeremy rolled over yelling for him to get off the bed, but the dog was as stubborn as his handler. He blew out a breath through his nose and lie down on the edge of the bed. "I'm sorry," he said to her, pulling up his pants to cover his exposed need.

"Jeremy that was..." she faked the sighing moan said, dying inside that she had to do this, had to stop it now before she couldn't later. She pulled him next to her and wrapping her arms around him. His hard desire and burning longing evident as it pressed against her.

"It was...we...?" he asked feeling, somehow, very unsatisfied and still very needing.

She placed her fingers on his lips, to keep him from talking. "You're the best," she whispered, holding back her tears. The dog rolled up next to him and she almost broke. She stroked his face, his neck, across his chest, lower. He still raged and she stopped. "Fantastic. I only hope we didn't wake the kids," she said, knowing it would redirect him, refocus him.

"Tell me about them," he said, laying his head on her shoulder. "How are they doing? Do they know how much I love them?"

She closed her eyes one more time as she held back tears. She wanted him in every way. She wanted to let him take her over and over, as long and often as he needed, in whatever way he needed. She burned for his touch in a way she hadn't burned since her first rape at the hands of a Cardassian - a rape he tried to prevent. But...there were other considerations.

"They're doing well. Tial is just as precocious as ever, though I guess you can't really say that about a teenager. She's driving me nuts wanting to learn to fly shuttlecraft and runabouts, but I suspect that's because she's met some young petty officer who she wants to spend time with. Jorel is determined he's going to play Terran football, just like his dad. He's filling out, or at least starting to. He's only twelve but he's going to have..." she stopped. "He's going to be tall like his father." She smiled as Jeremy nestled against her. It was bittersweet because, while he seemed to be cooling as she spoke of the children, she was still as hot and blazing as ever. He laughed in turn, got outraged at trivial things, scowled at major things and wanted to know more about this 'petty officer' and how he acted around Tial.

"I wish I could be around more," he whispered, more of a sleepy mumble than anything else. "I love them so much. I miss them every day."

"They love you too. So very much." she stroked his head, wanting him to sleep now. Bending over, gently, she kissed him again. He responded briefly, weakly, but whatever hopes she may have had were dashed. It was the way it was supposed to be. She continued to speak, telling him funny stories of their exploits, how Jorel sprained his ankle but wouldn't stop trying to become the great football player he knew his dad to be. Tial's insistence that her father would be there to escort her to the junior prom and she didn't care what any of the other girls thought - her dad was the greatest date she could have. She felt him crying again, soft sobs and shudders as she spoke of the children.

Somewhere along the line, he fell asleep. She kept talking, story after story, as he drifted deeper and deeper while she traced the crisscross cables of his scars and wished with everything she had for him to wake up ravenous and take her. Damning them both. But he only settled into a deeper sleep.

Sidi got up as she did and she told him to lie down. He looked at her with his brown eyes for several long moments, then she swore he smiled and took her place alongside Jeremy's back, one paw thrown over his waist.

"Computer, execute Stone Adam David John seven three three eight nine Tango Delta two two one three John seven two David eight four Adam two two three Zulu."

"Acknowledged," the computer said, the holographic projectors shutting down and leaving her standing on the bare hologrid with only the dog, the bed and the lover she could never have. Her tears fell as the silver energy curtain came down, transporting him from the holodeck to his quarters, putting him back without disturbing what she hoped would be at least one night of sleep. After the transport, she stood, alone, in her own holodeck, dropping against the wall and letting herself cry. He loved her the way he saw her. As 'Ahndyl'.

But he would never love her for herself, only as the spectre of his dead wife.
