Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: Earth - San Francisco
Timeline: MD 97, 2057 hrs

[ON]

Lieutenant Cameron sat at a lonely bar somewhere in San Francisco while carefully nursing a glass of bourbon. He listened to music playing from an old-fashioned 20th century juke box containing several of his preferred tunes to help pass the time. The USS Hathaway was stationed somewhere in the Axanar system for a training mission, while Cameron’s recent skin pigmentation disorder had led to his temporary grounding pending analysis and review.

Go figure, he thought.

Heaving an audible sigh that betrayed his Xenexian roots, Cameron managed to recover a bit of composure by carefully downing the remainder of his beverage. He signaled the bartender for another. As Cameron happened to be the sole client of this simple establishment, it took little time for Cameron to find his glass refilled.

"Off all the gin joints in all the galaxy, you had to walk into mine." Aren drawled with her best Humphrey Bogart impression. She was sitting in the seat next to him. "You and Liv took me to see that film, our first year at the academy. Neither of you could believe I hadn't seen it."

The Vulcan-Xenexian hybrid let a hint of what may have been a smile creep from the lower-left corner of his lip. "Casablanca is a remarkable film even by Vulcan standards." He pointed out quietly enough so that the only other living person in the room wouldn't overhear.

"Want to hear a secret?" she whispered back.

"Sure."

"I'd already seen it. Twelve times."

With careful measure, Cameron peered a suspicious glance towards his once-alive-but-now-deceased comrade, wondering for a moment if her confession was genuine, or an aberration of her psyche mixing with his own these past few years.

He couldn't tell which was the case.

"How curious." He admitted.

"You and Liv were getting nauseating, mooning over each other. I had to do something to get you two to talk together without having you get all embarrassed and fall over." Aren sipped her drink. "So I broke out the culturally naive alien ingénue for you. Help you both get your act together without all that awkward date stuff."

"You don't say..." Cameron said, disbelieving.

Olivia slowly pushed the door to the bar open. It had been a long day and she was looking forward to a drink in a semi-familiar place. The bar was mostly empty except for a few people sitting at the bar. She grabbed a stool and sat down, simultaneously getting th bar tender’s attention. “A Moscow mule please,” she said. She liked the spiciness of the ginger and was looking forward to the pick me up.

Aren looked at Cameron and raised a knowing eyebrow. "You must remember this: A kiss is but a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh. The fundamental things apply..."
