395 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Episode 19 - Tomorrow's Galileo
Location: USS Galileo-A - Senior Conn Officer's Quarters
Timeline: MD 07, 1637 hrs

[ON]

Rafe entered his quarters after his shift, feeling antsy, not being able to shake an uneasy feeling of something not being right, especially when he heard the word 'chronitons' being thrown around on the bridge.

Upon entry and on his way to his bathroom, the computer indicated he had one message. "Computer, play message.", Rafe said as he bent down and washed his face.

"Stay the course. - End of message", the computer said.

Rafe stood bolt upright! Those were Mira's words. They rang through his mind as if she had said them yesterday.

"Computer, begin personal log and include message in the beginning of the log.", Rafe commanded.

"These words, 'Stay the course.', were said to me by Vice-Admiral Mira T'ang. And why would they be sent to me now? Computer, provide details of sender.", Rafe said.

"Sender information is unknown but indications show message was condition-triggered.", the computer relayed. Rafe dried his face and hands, and sat down on his bed.

"Continue personal log. 'Condition-triggered' must mean something. But nothing showed on the sensors as being abnormal, nothing out of kilter. Could she have sent this message to me covertly? Well, she obviously could. She has security clearances well above the captain, even above Admi... wait, I mean Captain Saalm. And why am I mentioning Saalm?!? What is going on with me? I am unsure as to why I am uneasy. I feel totally unsure of myself and like I should be somewhere else. Yet, at the same time, I feel...no, I know this is where I need to be.

I feel I may need to go to sickbay, but I must be mindful. Rest is what I need right now. I need to silence my mind and meditate. Computer, remind me when I wake up to go get checked up by Lt. Nusien. End personal log."

The computer responded and quit recording, but said "Stay the course." after it stopped recording.

"Okay, what the heck was that?!?", Rafe stood up. "How the hell am I supposed to meditate after that?!?"

Rafe laid down despite that last blurp from the computer sending his stress levels through the freaking bulkhead!
