Captain's Log, Stardate 69026.5

All final checks for departure are complete. Sickbay just transferred the last of our injured colonists to Lagrange for long-term rehab and recovery where they will reunite with the rest of their civilian counterparts. Captain Rasmussen and our chaplain conducted services for the fallen aboard his vessel. They were...well, poetic. Humble and inspiring. Serving in Starfleet - space travel itself - is inherently dangerous, a fact often obfuscated by our thrill of exploration. I hope when our time comes to be remembered, we receive similar honors in our memory.

The task group will jump to warp as soon as detonation of Trial's warp core is complete. I would have preferred to tow the damaged hull back to Regula I for salvage but the journey is too far without dedicated tug vessels. I will miss her, but she was one of the oldest starships in the fleet and had a long, eventful career. What better way to be decommissioned than holding the line against the Tholians while protecting our colonists on the surface. Still, I remember the feeling when Galileo was lost under my command. It was...unsettling. Painful for a long time. But they rebuilt her, and there will eventually be another USS Trial serving in the fleet.

The journey to Regula I continues. Only three more months until we finally get a port visit and some shore leave. It is long overdue.

Computer, end log
