Title: Application Review (Part 2)
Location: Rigel System - Rigel Shipyards
Timeline: MD 84, 2020 hrs

Previously...

"Computer, pause log."

Reaching for a glass of golden brandy, the captain took a brief break to sip her drink and put on some music before returning to the remaining eighteen PADDs in the stack.

"Computer, resume log..."

[CONTINUED]

"…I do understand that this is a volunteer assignment and I do understand where this mission will take place, but I am more than up for that challenge. As a scientist, and a researcher, I welcome those challenges that a long-term deep space assignment may and probably will present..." the captain began to read from the next PADD. "Nichols, Human from Earth, twin sister in Starfleet, experienced in geophysics with prior postings as a senior science officer," she added to her notes. He seemed qualified for the job based on her initial review and his past deployments were a good indicator of his experience.

She suddenly paused and narrowed her eyes on his fleet portrait. That face... It was the same feeling she'd experienced when she'd looked upon the Romulan's picture. She knew it from somewhere but couldn't quite place it. And like the other man's something didn't feel right. Rejected.

The captain retrieved the next file and was instantly impressed by its contents. "Sandoval, Marisa... Vulcan and Human genes, 39 years old, raised on Vulcan but returned to Earth to become an academic." A quick look at the attached letters of reference and professorship seemed to reveal a curious and knowledgeable mind. "And she was found by the Galileo crew on...Kreanus?" The captain scratched her chin with curiosity, wanting to know more. Hopefully she would get the chance. Rejected.

The next PADD contained a familiar face, one she'd come to know over the past couple years. Chief Wylde had been a dependable doctor in the days when she'd served with him but he also came with his man-child baggage, Laeon. The younger Vaeron had proved himself useful in emergency situations, however, and she was confident he'd earn his room and board. At the very least, he could help out in the mess. The captain pressed the reject button and picked up the next file.

"Derani, Miraj, USS Galileo senior conn officer," she continued. The striking pink hair in the Boslic-Human hybrid's portrait was all too familiar, and the captain was well aware of her affinity for piloting. She'd shown herself to be more than capable in the past, but she was young and ambitious...perhaps too much so for such a long assignment. Rejected. "It is too soon for her."

The captain grabbed her glass, took a long sip of brandy, then stretched her arms and leaned back as she savored the warm and flavorful spirit. She was suddenly grateful she'd done so when her eyes fell on the next application file. "Franklin, Amaranai..." She stared at the slim brunette's cute portrait and smiled to herself. "Applying for...chief security officer? With an attached application for promotion?" She frowned and tiled her head while she considered the requests. At 26 years old, Franklin already had five prior starship postings under her belt and was deserving of a promotion. But would she, as the captain, be able to set aside her feelings and order the woman into danger? Rejected.

Downing the last half of her drink, she reached for the bottle and refilled her glass before returning to the stack.
