Eviess walked back to her quarters. She'd had lunch with Varro today. It had become a painful routine she would not let go off. Painful in that she had now loved him for a long time and even when he was far she'd send him silly letters just to get a response and even the short letters he'd sent back had gladdened and pained her heart.

She entered her quarters, picked up a PADD she'd taken from work and hit the recording button. "Eviess Personal log,” she started as she made herself a cup of tea. She walked to the little chair that sat by the little table, gently placed her cup down and continued her log.

"Today I had lunch with Varro again. Being around the Klingons has brought up painful memories so I am glad he is here. He's always been a true light on my broken road. We talked, we shared jokes and all that time I let myself pretend that we were two people in love having lunch but what in the world could someone like that see in me. As much as I live for those meals and talks I always walk away with a broken heart."

Eviess sipped her tea, "It's not right that I love him, I know he could never love someone like me back. He's being kind, he's being Varro but..."

She sighed. She hit the pause button. She couldn't finish this now. Gulping down her tea she stripped off her clothing and headed to the shower. She would shower and sleep. She needed rest. Maybe the bliss of unconsciousness would take her thoughts of unrequited love from her mind and give her rest. She'd build her strength. After all tomorrow was another day.

Within minutes she was showered and dressed for bed. She crawled in and turned her gaze to the little window that showed the stars as they whizzed by in warp. She couldn't help her thoughts from drifting back to Varro. As sleep claimed her it was his face that she saw in her mind. Her heart sent a silent prayer to whatever Divine force was out there, a prayer for his heart to one day answer hers.
