Physical Description		Heinu is a tall, lanky man who loves to eat, but can never seem to put on any weight. He has long, slender hands, with neatly trimmed fingernails. He shaves his head, especially since he started balding a few years ago. He will sometimes grow a close-cut goatee just to switch things up a bit, though most often he is clean-shaven. Although he is not muscular, nor particularly athletic, Heinu appears healthy and vibrant.

Personality & Traits

General Overview		Heinu is a good-natured man with a ready smile. He is the most relaxed member of an intense and highly successful family. While some people might think that would make him jealous of his siblings' success, or make them look down on him for his relative obscurity, nothing could be further from the truth. He retains close ties with each member of his family, though they rarely keep in touch. When the do see each other every couple of years, it's like they were never apart. The same can be said of Heinu's friends. He makes friends easily, and his affable nature makes it so that he is hard not to get along with. Unfortunately, those who are highly driven often find him frustrating.
Strengths		Heinu Reteif has many strengths. He is very intelligent, and highly knowledgeable in his field. If he had more ambition, like the rest of his family he could easily have achieved incredible distinction. He is also an exceptional cook, especially when it comes to exotic ingredients. He is adventurous and excited to discover new things. His friendly attitude and easygoing attitude make him remarkably resilient to setbacks and disruptions. He is not a tactical thinker, nor does he care particularly for the military trappings of Starfleet. He much prefers the side of Starfleet that focuses solely on exploration.
Weaknesses		Some of Heinu's strengths are also his weaknesses. He is sometimes too relaxed. Though he will almost always make it to his duty station on time, he'll rarely arrive more than a couple seconds early. He isn't great about keeping personal appointments, and his lack of ambition is severe enough to frustrate many of his colleagues. He is barely competent enough to pass Starfleet security and emergency procedures. He also struggles, even after nearly fifteen years, to maintain what many officers insist is the proper decorum.
Ambitions		Some Starfleet personnel dream of captaining their own ship. Some have political aspirations. Heinu doesn't care about any of that. His personal ambition is to try delicacies from every single known species. To date, he's tried some 430 authentic foods from around 100 worlds. Although he's tried far more than those using replicated recipes, he believes that they can't stack up to the authentic experience.
Hobbies & Interests		Heinu loves food. Not large amounts of food, but unique foods. In fact, his career and field of study both help cater to his love of unique foods. When he's not working in the arboretum or the lab, he's often in the galley, trying to make some new and strange combination of foods. He enjoys spending time with all kinds of people, and he'll often organize parties, just to get people to try whatever new food he's whipped up.
Vernacular		Heinu Reteif talks with his hands, every bit as much as he does with words. When you speak with him you have to stand back or you're likely to get dirt flung on you from a spade, or some sauce from a spoon. He’s got a light accent, but it’s hardly noticeable at most times.

Personal History		Heinu is the youngest of four, and was pushed to be his best throughout his childhood. Throughout his childhood he was around high achievement. His father was a highly-sought-after professor in quantum physics. His mother ran a highly visible charity seeking aid for the victims of natural disasters and wars across the Federation's borders. As he grew up, he watched his brothers and sisters get degrees and enter their own fields. They quickly found distinction. His sister quickly became a leader in one of the most powerful businesses on Earth. Khumo excelled at every sport he touched and played professional football(soccer) and basketball for most of a decade. Mmusi, the brother just older than Heinu, followed in his father's footsteps to study Quantum Physics. He has since been working at the Daystrom Institute. There are rumors he may be asked to take over the department, though they're unconfirmed, as yet. Heinu followed his siblings in their academic success, and earned both his masters and bachelors degrees in botany from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology. College was expected of everyone in his family, and his natural intelligence made the study easy for him, though showing up for class was decidely more difficult. A career like those of his siblings didn't really appeal to him, however. Instead, he enlisted in Starfleet, opting out of every opportunity to become an officer. It was simply too much responsibility, exactly the kind of thing Heuinu didn't want.
Starfleet History		From the very beginning, Heinu did well in Starfleet. That isn't to say he was truly exceptional. Instead, he was happy to be in the middle of the pack. That has been true of his entire career. He has done just well enough to get the postings he'd like, but not well enough to really advance more than he had to. Early on he distinguished himself as an expert on alien flora. That earned him a posting aboard the USS Einstein. He served aboard Einstein for five years. After that time he renewed his enlistment and got his requested posting aboard the USS Zheng He. Heinu enjoyed his time aboard Zheng He for seven more years. Despite avoiding any and all promotions, he did advance in rank a few times over his twelve years in Starfleet. When he requested a posting aboard Galileo he was both pleased and surprised to be accepted aboard. It would be a new adventure, in a part of space he hadn't ever visited before.
Medical History		Heinu Reteif has led a relatively healthy life. Despite common childhood sicknesses, bruises, and scrapes he didn't have much of note before he joined Starfleet. After joining Starfleet, however, Heinu has visited the sickbay for minor poisoning on several occasions. Despite being admonished to avoid some of the more exotic ingredients, he continues to try things that aren't quite suited to a Human's biology.
