Physical Description K'Ayhlor is a hybrid of a Terran and Klingon, and it is obvious. She bears the forehead ridging of her mother's line, though not as prominently as a full-blood. Her skin is a dusky tan, and she usually keeps her long hair tied back in a plait. Although she can be considered around average size for a human woman, she's a bit under-sized for a Klingon. Instead of a towering, statuesque form, she's spryly built, with lean muscle that moves with a quick, lioness-like grace.
Body Art She has a large tattoo of a bat'leth blade on her back, across her shoulders. Once, while she was training as a warrior on Qo'noS, a group of Klingons pummeled her into unconsciousness. While she was out, they carved the bat'leth shape into her back with their daggers, in mockery of the fact that K'Ayhlor was a half-breed. Instead of having the scars removed, though, she decided to own the injury, and used it to further fuel her desire, outlining the carved shape with the tattoo design.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Her Klingon nature is always there, lurking like a burst of heat under a skim of calm. K'Ayhlor is a woman of science, though, and a warrior second. Granted, she has trained in the crucible of the Klingon Defense Force, and has likely taken more painsticks and split lips than most will know in a lifetime. With that training comes a quiet kind of confidence, the kind that knows that loud words are like unto a yammering targ that likes to hear its own voice. When she acts, she does with the precision and finality of a blade.

Despite her strength and training, she is an intellectual first and foremost, always fascinated by the natural world and the wonder of space, her long, tapering fingers just as comfortable transporting a night-blooming flower as they are squeezing the life from the throat of an enemy.
Strengths Physical Strength/Stamina. It comes in handy for moving heavy things.

Excellent Memory.

Analytical Mind.
Weaknesses Impatience.

Intolerance toward Romulans. She blames their meddling for the Klingon Civil War.
Ambitions Modeling herself after the great philosopher-kings like Kahless the Unforgettable, she hones both body and mind, challenging herself to thrive in the field of science. A dull mind is as useless as a dull blade, and twice as dangerous.
Hobbies & Interests Apiculture - not much call for this on a starship, but K'Ayhlor has always been fascinated by bees, and keeping them has a calming influence over her.

History - she is a romantic historian at heart, reveling in tales of cultures and people long vanished.

Drinking - warnog, firebine, bloodwine, beer...

Sparring - often in concert with the above.
Vernacular A direct, strong tone, as any warrior should speak.
Orientation Bisexual
Language(s) Spoken Federation Standard, Klingonese, English, German

Personal History You'd never believe how important bees and honey are. But that comes later...

K'Ayhlor Hughes was born on the colony of Archanis IV. On that admixture world of both the Federation and the Empire’s influence, Starfleet security officer Morgan Hughes met and began a somewhat improbable courtship of Gevn'A of the House of GevnoS, his heart stolen in a dervish of blood and fire.

At first, Gevn'A gave the human polite (for a Klingon) attention, but this soon turned to admiration and respect, both for his prowess as a warrior and his dedication to her pursuit. She took the man to mate, and completed ceremonies with him in 2356. A few years later, she decided to bear a child from the union, and K'Ayhlor of the House of GevnoS, K'Ayhlor Hughes, was born.

K'Ayhlor was eight years old, already growing fast and strong, when her mother left to serve the forces of Gowron in the Civil War, determined to uphold the Empire’s alliance with the Federation. Tragically, her warship was lost in battle. It was a glorious death, one achieved in defense of both honor and truth, and K'Ayhlor did her best not to weep. Tears were saved and hidden in the silence of the darkness.

Morgan Hughes continued to live with his daughter on Archanis IV until 2372, when the threat of war clouded relations between the Empire and the Federation. The withdrawal of the Khitomer Accords and Chancellor Gowron’s evacuation order for Federation personnel caused PO Hughes to flee with his child to his family on Earth, in the region of Utah. K'Ayhlor did not wish to leave her home. She felt as if she were being pulled in two, though her Klingon side acquiesced to her human side, and she obeyed her father.

K'Ayhlor grew into the cusp of adolescence on Earth, running free in the harsh expanses of Utah, and attending Earth schooling. She was a willful child, not fitting in anywhere, and nursing a growing resentment of her father. It was not logical to blame Morgan for anything, as the man did the best he could to raise K'Ayhlor, but she was quickly becoming a sullen teenager.

It was especially difficult during the full conflagration of the Dominion War. Though she was close enough to adulthood for a Klingon, she still was considered a child by Federation law. K'Ayhlor yearned to fight beside her mother's people in glorious combat, to serve the Empire in the KDF. She knew that, especially as the losses mounted, that she could very probably get herself conscripted into the armed forces, but she respected her father's wishes.

She found solace in the wilderness, teaching herself rocks and animals and plants, knowing which snakes could kill, where to find water. K'Ayhlor also found comfort in her bees - thousands of them, all collected in large hives. She tended these bees with a surprising gentleness, for a Klingon...watching their complex interactions and their own delicate ecosystem. It was the young Klingon girl's first brush with her love of science.

The war ended, but both Hughes could stand the situation no longer, and K'Ayhlor left Earth as an eighteen-year-old. She travelled to the Klingon Homeworld to reconnect with her mother’s people, her family of the House of GevnoS. Some were receptive, others wanted little to do with the half-breed, but she did all she could to learn the ways of the warrior, and what it meant to be a true Klingon. Many were the scrapes she fought through in order to prove that her human blood was not a weakness and that it made her stronger, for she had to work harder to achieve that which came naturally to others.
Starfleet History K'Ayhlor trained with the KDF, joining the crew of the IKS Starbreaker, a groaning old BoP that patrolled the borders of sections of Klingon space. K'Ayhlor served as a science specialist, inasmuch as one is needd aboard a Klingon ship. She also got her first taste of true combat, here, in several dust-ups with Nausicaan and Orion raiders.

Her visits home were few during this time period, and family time was strained and distant, but polite. On one visit, however, her father gave her advice that would change the course of her life. K’Ayhlor's mother had died defending the idea of an Empire-Federation alliance. What better way, then, to honor that sacrifice than to serve as one of the few Klingons in Starfleet?

Long she pondered, contemplating her future. Stars were consulted, as were the elders of her House, along with the bottom of bloodwine goblets. Finally she came to the conclusion. The road would be long and the journey toilsome, but she would pursue further schooling...and then enlist in Starfleet.
Medical History Various scrapes, scars, contusions, lacerations...all healed, for the most part.
