Personality & Traits

General Overview Coleman isn't always the easiest to get along with. Mainly because people often times misinterpret her casual indifference for being anti-social or bitter. She is prone to curmudgeonly behaviour that can be exacerbated when she's stressed or if the importance of her task is high. She never directs her irritation towards another individual directly, but doesn't hide her annoyance at situations that frustrate her. She is known to scoff a lot. Her indifference doesn't extend to her family however and to them she is lively and passionate, if a bit reclusive at times. She is known to drink far too much, and has never fully quit her tobacco habit. She has a particular fondness for an odourless tobacco like plant called, Bhess leaf from Betazed, and Earth tobacco.
Ambitions Though not overly critical of the Federation in general she has written a couple books that can be seen as controversial in bioethics. She is very politcal minded. Having spent 10 years on the Federation Science Council she is very politically aware. When she is finally forced to retire, returning to politics is the only thing she would want to do.

She loves to write and is a published author.
The New Terran Imperialism? Bioethics of Terraforming in the 24th Century being her most recent title, published in 2389. It is a critical look at the current policies regarding terraforming and how they haven't changed much in the last 30 years since her last book. She isn't outwardly critical of the Federation, but it is very obvious that she thinks the policies need to be more restrictive on resource extraction, biomass cultivation and colonization and more focused on regeneration of damaged environments and planetary protection laws for Federation worlds.

Her first novel Terraforming is Bioimperialism. published in 2360, is less critical on the Federation, and more a very in depth look into the world of terraforming and the history of it's use. It examines the impacts that terraforming have on potential non-carbon based lifeforms and attempts to explain why we should be using the technology for ecosystem restoration and protection. While she was praised for her insight and knowledge of the history of terraforming and planetary manipulation she was heavily criticized that her view that Federation scientists were not concerned with protection of other organisms and pointed out the policy on planet selection criteria. She's always maintained that this book doesn't criticize her peers motives but rather attempts to bring to light that our selection criteria is too lax and should be reexamined.

In between her those two books she has published a number of science articles on the subjects of xenobiology, exoecology, terraforming, effects of artificial planetary atmosphere and attends lectures every few months either in person or through holoprojections.

She is nearing the end of her career and she is in the process of writing what she calls her last book. Against the advice of her family she has decided to do one more tour aboard a Starship before she retires. She enjoys space and starship travel very much.
Orientation Heterosexual

Personal History Not much is known about Coleman. She tends to keep to herself and doesn't share personal information until she's had a chance to know the person better. She was born on Tycho City, Luna. Her latest husband made her a widow when he died during an accident while working at Luna Shipyard. She has two ex-husbands, two children and five grandchildren.

She is a graduate of the Academy of Science on Deneb IV, and gained her phD at Regulus III Science Academy. Her early career involved working with the Federation Science Council, later joining the Civilian Science Corps where she worked on various Starfleet starships and outposts.
