Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Like many Filipinos, Yasmin is a very sociable creature who enjoys both parties and respectful company. She also values family above all else, and she will treat those who are close to her as family, a concept deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. She is also highly dedicated to her job as she believes in the premise of being cheerful in the face of adversity. Thus, she is not shy to a new adventure, even if it means it required her to make the ultimate sacrifice. | |
| Strengths | While the duties of an Operations officer are vast, Yasmine finds herself having more of an affinity for the logistical side of Operations. It is not the case that she lacks in the other aspects, she just feels more at ease with logistics. Somewhat like a madwoman, one's logistical nightmare becomes Yasmin's idea of a fun time. Perhaps it is out of seeing a job done well, or perhaps she has a very severe case of OCD, but if Yasmine is given a Cargo Bay and a manifest, she will know where every item on that list is without fail. Her most valued strength though is her fighting spirit, based off of her years learning Filipino martial arts. She had no choice because God did not bless Yasmin with physical prowess. Because of her being short and light, she instead relies on her speed, even if her endurance is not what she would like to be. There was also one natural strength that she had being, arguably, the smallest person in the crew: she can fit into any crawl space on board. |
|
| Weaknesses | Her greatest weakness is, sadly, her inability to take that many hits on a combative level. Her petite frame, while tough, cannot stand the riggers of hand to hand combat. This inherent disability leaves her vulnerable, forcing her to rely on speed and agility, which also sacrifices her endurance. She can run for miles without end, but adding weight to her would not be a good idea. Therefore, ruck marches would play hell on her body. Just as her physical body has an inherent weakness, so does her emotional weakness plague her mind. Being an extrovert, she does not like being alone, so she will tend to cling to those who are her "inner circle," as a replacement for her lack of family back home. Since the loss of her older brother, who was her best friend growing up, she developed autophobia, the fear of being alone. |
|
| Ambitions | Yasmin desires to climb the ranks and maybe, just maybe, apply for a Warrant Officer position. While Operations is where Star Fleet deemed that is to be her position, she has desired to become a Conn officer of some kind, either flying a ship or a shuttle. She hopes that when her tour is over, she can put in her packet and be considered for the role. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Being the daughter of a mother who wants her to get married, she has made it her life's mission to become as best of a home cook as she can. Therefore, when she has the availability, she liked to go to the kitchens, to make her own meals. Her PADD is filled with cookbooks and recipes of different cultures. She avoids Klingon recipes because of course...yes. | |
| Vernacular | Yasmin has a very strong Manila accent that is mezzo-soprano in casual conversation, soprano when she is excited and in that party atmosphere which she longs for. Because of the accent, she talks somewhat slower to make sure that everyone can understand her. | |
| Orientation | Heterosexual | |
| Language(s) Spoken | Federation Standard, Tagalog |
| Personal History | The youngest child and only daughter of Brandon and Yzabel Aquino, Yasmin was a bubbly child who was said to smile more often than she had ever been asleep. All throughout her life, her family brewed a household so full of joy that all of their neighbors could come by to drink their fill. The music would satisfy their ears in equal measure to the food and drinks that they would run down their throats. Depending on the occasion, when the sun rose over the waves of the Pacific, if it were sentient, it would hardly believe its fiery eyes though it was day, they all went to bed. Never let it be said that Filipinos did not know how to party. Of course, where there was happiness and joy, there had to be sorrow and terror. When Yasmin was but becoming a young woman, news of the attack on the Federation by the Dominion and the Cardassians reached their ears. It seemed like one system after another fell, and it was only a matter of time before Earth was next. Ryan, who was her best friend and elder brother, volunteered to join Star Fleet. The blood that flowed in their veins was the same blood as Jose Calugas and Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo and Juan Luna, the national heroes of the Philipines. By 2374, he was a full fledged member of Star Fleet, serving aboard the mighty USS Majestic. Of course, as fate would dictate, the Majestic was lost along with all of her crew protecting the Defiant in Operation Return. The news of the Majestic came as a sledge hammer upon Yzabel, who screamed in horror at the news of her son's death. Brandon, his elder brother, also got the news while he was serving as an instructor at Star Fleet Academy. For Yasmin, this was the first time that she saw her entire family go dark. Yzabel shaved her head in mourning, and Yasmin was left alone while everyone else wept. However, during his memorial birthday party when the family was gathered, Yasmin tried, somewhat successfully, to lighten their moods. Through the house speakers, she turned on Ryan's favorite songs to try and lift their spirits. This helped lighten the mood slightly, but it was enough. She would continue the tradition of playing Ryan's favorite songs every year for his birthday. This also gave Yasmin a very interesting resolve, one that would only bare fruit when Brandon retired from Star Fleet: she wanted to join Star Fleet herself. With reluctant blessings from her family, she had to bid farewell to a friend of hers, Jose de la Cruz. It was evident that after all of their formative years, Jose had the biggest crush of Yasmin, if not fell in love with her. However, deep within her heart, she had to fulfill what her brother Ryan started. She felt that there had to be an Aquino in Star Fleet. Thankfully, by the time everything was said and done, there was no threat of war that would put her life in immediate risk, at least, more than what was expected. Therefore, with heavy heart, she had to kiss Jose goodbye, on the cheek, and take the next shuttle to a new life without him. |

| Starfleet History | While Yasmin tried her best to become a helmsman, she was selected for Operations school, which put her whole career on a track she was not expecting. She was a little bit chunky when she entered Basic Training, she was practically a twig when she came out. She was given a commendation upon graduating for being able to run marathons at a competitive speed, even though she couldn't handle much weight being put on her. After a week leave, she first served on the Ambassador-class USS Excalibur, at the time on patrol duties near the Romulan Neutral Zone. While learning the craft of Operations, including qualifications for Bridge time, Yasmin became known as a charismatic member of the crew. While her Department Head asked her to keep everything within reason, shore-leave was very much an all-or-nothing fun time. After serving her time on the Excalibur, she was given the rank of Petty Officer Third Class, and was thus sent to the Nebula-class USS Monitor, where she served as a team leader for the Utility Network Management. Again, when her charismatic attitude, she more than earned her promotion. The problem was, she HATED patrol duty. She couldn't stand going through the same route, day in and day out. Therefore, she would either wake up earlier or go to bed later so she could have some kind of change up. It was at that point that she would never go on a ship that had dedicated patrol duty. Her prayers were answered when she learned that the USS Galileo was looking for crew. She found it very curious that the post was not something you could be assigned to. You had to volunteer for it. Deep space exploration requires a level of dedication and sacrifice that no one would be forced to take part in. Yasmin, who though she had the option to resign from Star Fleet, decided to take on this new assignment. |
