With a bright flash and a silver blur, Galileo finally reached her new destination and dropped out of warp. A few skillful inputs from her flight controller caused the tiny surveyor's impulse engine to come on line, and the ship began to slowly streak through the vastness of space as she approached a small starbase in the distance. Officially named Starbase 185, the nearby Regula Class starbase was one of the Federation's northern-most outpost inside the Beta Quadrant. Constructed in the early 2340s, it had served a variety of functions over the past fifty years, including acting as a staging ground during the most recent Romulan relief efforts during the Hobus disaster. However despite its humanitarian and diplomatic capabilities, its primary role had always been to serve as a frontier waypoint for any future exploration and possible military efforts in the nearby sectors.

As Galileo approached the starbase and came within visual range, several other Federations starships could be identified orbiting the station. Two of them were permanently attached to the station, including the Saber Class escort USS Solomon, and its bigger sister, the Steamrunner Class USS Manchester. Also present was an always-awe-inspiring sight, a large Galaxy Class named USS Venture. Commissioned in late 2370, Venture was one of the most recognizable and decorated Galaxy Class starships in the fleet. She had been thrust into action immediately following her completion, and had participated in famous combat operations including the First Battle of Deep Space 9 in 2372, Operation Return in 2374, and both the First and Second Battles of Chin'toka during the Dominion War. Now, Venture had just added to her storied history and become one of the few starships in service to discover a new star system.

Galileo slowed as she approached the station and entered a high orbit of the complex. At only 140 meters in length, she was about half the size of one of Venture's warp nacelles, and only half the total size of USS Manchester. Sneaking her way in between the two larger ships, the Nova Class snuggled her way into the orbital pattern and began her scheduled rendezvous, and subsequent mission briefing.
