Overview
The Nova-class of the Mirror Universe was born of the need for warships – pure, unadulterated battlecruisers that could engage enemy forces even when vastly outnumbered, and still come out on top. With access to the Federation database from the Primary Universe, Terran Empire engineers came across the design schematics for the Nova-class exploration frigate and the design history associated with that frame. Further back in the development lifecycle, the Nova-class was the first iteration of what would eventually become the Defiant-class – and the potential for destruction was obvious to the Empire’s finest minds.
Scaling up the design to almost three times its original size and outfitting it with as many weapon arrays as the power core could handle, the final design gave the Empire the new warship it had been waiting for. The first of its class, named for the legendary interrogator and investigator Galileo Galilei from Earth’s past, has been selected by General Jonathan Holliday to serve as his official flagship for ongoing efforts against the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. The ship is still new,
Galileo being the first vessel built following the prototype bearing the Class’ name, and is generally untested.
