THE INTRO!

Thanis: Welcome to Galileo Impulse. I'm your host, Thanis Rothgra-

Nesh: -and I'm Nesh Saalm.

Thanis: Keeping our ears to the ground and our sensors on full. We know it's hard sometimes for all you players/writers/puppeteers/readers to keep up with everything that's going on aboard the Galileo, so the Galileo Impulse is-

Nesh: -a way for us to keep track of everything that's going on! With your fun and brilliant hosts, me *fans self* and Thanis! Bringing you the latest and greatest in Galileo continuity.

Mission Update Synopsis!

Thanis: Right, okay. So here's what's happened since the last edition of Galileo Impulse:

Our Rojar surveys are now well underway, with teams dispatched to both of Rojar's class-M moons and to the outlying planets in the system on ATs (Away Teams) and SETs (Survey Expedition Teams). Moon surveys, atmospheric surveys and landing parties comprise the first round of AT/SET sorties, so keep a look out for them.

In other news, Galileo's intelligence team has just left the ship with Captain Saalm after the captain received orders to rendezvous with an unnamed contact. Commander Holliday and Commander Coleman will be in charge of the Galileo until their safe return.

Ensign Peers and our six-man engineering department are working fast and furious to install the latest kinetic shielding array to the ship, which will provide us with power and energy upon being hit with force. This is in response to the possible threat of being in former Borg-occupied space, and with the discovery of R2-R2's decimated ruins.

Character Development Updates!

Nesh: Alright, time for some character synopsis!

In sad news, first and foremost, LTJG Jeremy Stone and his MWD has been killed in action on R1 by a yet-unnamed animal. Funeral proceedings will be taken care of by Starfleet and security has arranged a memorial on board Galileo. LTJG Theron Rhodes and LTJG Aria Rice have been promoted to chief of sec/tac and assistant chief respectively. PO2 Verity Thorne has organized some activities for Galileo's chaplaincy, including theater groups, a couple of classes, a singing group, and a book club. Drop by Thorne's office for more details! Galileo is now underway with her kinetic shielding array installs, headed up by ENS Lilou Peers in engineering.

Kestra Orexil is up and about now, but she's super bored, so go drop her a hello! LTJG Liyar is busy trying not to bang his head off the wall with the arrivals of Naskisem and Neo vying for his attention. LTJG Maenad Panne was severely injured during her SET of Rojar I, but should be recovering nicely by now. Send her a card! LTJG Kiri Cho is having a difficult time dealing with Stone's death, and her subsequent away mission which went rather awry. Cho is also continuing her telepathy lessons with Liyar, and has organized a star-birth party for a select group of friends. LTJG Andreus Kohl has been promoted to chief medical officer with the departure of LTCMDR Pola Ni Dhuinn, so there are some shifts in sickbay as well. PO2 Jessica Sandywyne has been promoted to head nurse also.

Galileo has also begun her in-depth away team missions, and many of our crew are getting opportunities to go down to R1 and R2 including LTJG Scarlet Blake, LTJG Delainey Carlisle and LTJG Jacob Pendleton, the last of whom has recently discovered a very unique structure on R2's surface which is currently being investigated. ENS Varek and CN Neo are currently being spirited away in the eye of a brewing storm on R1, and CAPT Lirha Saalm has a new yeoman!

Arrivals and Departures!

Nesh:

PO2 Victarian Jaqen, played by Adam, is Captain Saalm's new yeoman. (He seems to have a bit of a history with our own LTJG Kohl.)

CN Neo, played by Phoebe, is a new support craft pilot in the Flight department, and Liyar's biological brother. (How convenient.)

SWO Amon Mormont, played by Adam, is a new security/tactical officer!

CIV Naskisem, played by Mike, is an archaeologist here on sabbatical from the VSA to speak with LTJG Panne. (So she says.)

In DEPARTURES, we have LTJG Jeremy Stone and his associated NPCs Tiffany Darwisch and Jool Fenta. ENS Jessica Wilson has also left us, sadly, and LTCMDR Pola Ni Dhuinn and her associated NPCs Jesra Moore and Justin Baker have also left us.

WHAT'S NEXT: Thanis and Nesh Make Unsubstantiated Hypotheses!

Thanis: Well, there's really not much to add in terms of what's been posted. We hope to see lots of new and interesting creations and discoveries from Galileo's talented team of writers, in the interstellar sandbox that we're working on carving out through the SETs and IC development.

Nesh: It's truly an exciting time! Unless you're a Borg. Then it is Not Exciting At All.

Thanis: *squints* Yeah. Or a Borg. Anyway, we're also seeing some of our characters grow closer and slowly but surely we're seeing bits and pieces of information about our crew's past history and their future together on Galileo. Stay tuned, we've got posts sitting on the burner just waiting to come out over the next few days.

REMINDERS

Thanis: So we're working on creatures and stuff for characters to find in their exploration of the moons/asteroids/etc. And we have access to this whole list of descriptions and images and stuff. So if you're planning on going down to the surface of a moon or a planet or an asteroid or something, and you want some ideas about what you might find (and even some cool potentials for mini-plots and discoveries!), you should totally contact one of us and invite us to play dungeon master on your away mission! You have to reach out to us - that's how this works. So please. Let us know and we will unobtrusively throw in scene details and item discoveries for you, because we're awesome like that.

Nesh: Oh, also guys, if there's stuff you or your character want to talk about, we're still (and always) accepting article submissions for the newsletter. Alien languages, starship schematics, television shows (or holovid broadcasts), scientific articles, what's your character's culture even like, anyway? Where'd the Klingons ever go? Pretty much anything and everything you can think of that's Star Trek or Galileo related, just send it in. This is a great way to keep yourself occupied if you find yourself struggling for things to do at the moment as well.

Thanis: Oh, yeah, and remember you can contact me (by calling Lilou Peers) if you want to know what's going on in a place you're heading to. Just drop a line asking - for example - 'anyone having a throw down in the mess hall that I might observe while eating my lunch?' And I'll get back to you.

Nesh: And one more thing! This is totally boring housekeeping stuff, but if we could remember to a) put deck listenings in that location bar when we're posting...

Thanis: Like... USS Galileo - Deck 4 - Sickbay...

Nesh: ...and b) put a little tag under our NPCs when signing off-

Thanis: *waves* Hi! I'm played by Lilou Peers!

Nesh: -that would make this all much more organized and easier to navigate for everyone! *grin* Thanks!

ARTICLE SUBMISSION: SCARLET BLAKE'S FAVORITE THINGS!

My Favourite Post Titles of the month:

~ Promptitude
~ By the Moons of Rojar! (I have the power! Sorry, too much She-Ra for me....)
~ Love Flows Like Water, I Burn Like Oil
~ Chopsticks

My Favourite Character Moments/Quotes of the month:

Captain Lirha Saalm - reveals the kind of burdens that play on a CO's mind:
' "No...a broken nail is no good to me." '

Commander Jonathan Holliday - the glass is half full kind of guy:
' Nothing like almost going to war with the whole Klingon Empire to bring a crew closer together. '

Lt JG Liyar - some of Holliday's optimism appears to have rubbed off on the Vulcan:
' No gigantic shark-bugs threatened to rip them in half. Bonus. '

Lt. Cmdr Evelyn Coleman - spoken like a true intel agent:
' What's wrong with a little gossip? It never hurt anyone. '

Master Chief Petty Officer Markum Quinn - the crew just can't help but fall for his charisma:
' "Ensign, there is no need to bow before me, though the thought is proper." '

Lt JG Aria Rice - the Captain needn't have put so much effort into writing the report on the last mission on Galileo. She should have just asked Aria to write it for her. Aria managed to sum up the previous mission very succinctly indeed:
' "And it just went..." she made a movement of her hand towards the table, as if her hand crash landed. "Big bara-boom....seriously, when you're in a ship and you know you're going down, you screw your eyes shut." '

Lt Dea Mialin - once is an accident, twice is just plain clumsy:
' "Aye Captain." She really didn't want another crash landing. "Adjusting course to keep us at a safe distance from the orbital debris." '

WO Oliver Sylver - shares some wise words on leadership:
' "...and as a result had to perform on the stage of the bar. And not all too tastefully either. Put it this way...it's difficult to order people around when they have seen you half naked dancing on a stage...badly, may I add." '

WO Lamar Darius - inspires confidence in his passengers:
' "If you feel you need to vomit at any point during the mission, the lavatory can be found directly behind you in the aft compartment. Please flush after use." '

Crewman Neo - I think Mr Vulcan needs a hug:
' "I'm Vulcan. I don't like anything," '

Lt JG Theron Rhodes - some things just never change, not even in the 24th Century:
' It never fails when there is something important that he needed to be at the turbolift door would not open when desired. Theron thought, I could have probably climbed through the Jefferies tubes faster. '

Crewman Indri Chara - unimpressed with the new security uniform, despite the promise of sweeties:
' Chara looked like a floating pinata. '

Lt JG Kestra Orexil - tells it how it is when Kohl doesn't like the overwhelming mental response to his question:
' You asked. '

Lt Amril - excited by his first Away Mission, he shows just how nice Vorta can be if given a chance!
' "Would you like me to bring you back a... ah, souvenir, I believe it is called?" ... "I shall find something uncontaminated and interesting for you, Captain." '

PO1 Keval Graysan - we could all learn from Keval how to get back into someone's good books after a potentially insulting misunderstanding:
' "Sorry I got you confused with a Human, but if it makes you feel any better I thought you were a very sexy human." '

Lt JG Jacob Pendleton - spreads shocking accusations about the authenticity of wrestling, how could he?!
' "its called Professional Wrestling... its choreographed, scripted drama based on athletic competition between two or more competitors." '

Cadet SG Im'er Mor'an - has good news and bad news. The bad news is:
' "But I could kill you if I wanted to." '
The good news is:
' "I am not inclined to killing people on a whim, though, so no need to worry." '

Ens Lilou Peers - you know it's been a good night when the answer to the question of what happened on said night is:
' "Ugh," she drank deep of her water, peering at him myopically over the rim. "I'd let you know, but it's all a little foggy." '

PO3 Kareel Gan - reveals what all of us non-science crew are thinking on the surveys:
' "Barring that, we could take holoimages." She held up the small camera around her neck. '

Lt JG Maenad Panne - helps the female members of crew decide where to go on shoreleave:
' "There is also a huge expanse of crystals on the seabed." '

Lt JG Kiri Cho - stumbles on a new way to appreciate and experience the naked body:
' Tense Kiri didn't move, she didn't dare to even breath in case she inhaled the nakedness. '

SWO Sergei Petrov - it's nice to see geologists are more positive than doctors in knowing what they do rather than what they don't do:
' He was a geologist; he lived for rocks. '

Ens Jared Nicholas - at least the chap is honest:
' "I don't bite. I promise. Well not unless you want me to and then not very hard." '

Benjamin Dale - decides he's had enough of political correctness when commenting on another man's cultural garb:
' "You know you're wearing a dress, right?" '

PO2 Jessica Sandywyne - decides she's had enough of Vulcan logic. I'm not sure if we should send a counsellor to talk to her or join in the hunt:
' Wobbling her head Jessica silently mimicked him, joviality wasn't illogical. If she wasn't making jokes then maybe she crack up instead, chasing the Vulcan around the room while painting camouflage on her face. Smiling she looked up, maybe she should. '

Lt JG Dawn Meridian - might well be reaching for her own camouflage paint:
' Vulcans are weird, Dawn decided, and not for the first time. '

PO2 Jeroen Adlar - sets the record straight on scientists once and for all:
' "Not a masochist, darling...just enjoy knowledge." '

Lt JG Andreus Kohl - oh how we've missed the clear, one true champion of deadpan that is Kohl. So, what game are you going to play in a swimming pool, Kohl?
' "Given the environment, I'm probably going to swim now." '

Ens Varek - makes McCoy's and 'The Doctor's' bedside manner seem positively warm:
' "I do not understand this crew's propensity for calling a hypospray 'shots,' " Varek said as he approached Gabriel, "That is an archaic term for an outdated instrument. A hypospray injects a micro-stream into your dermal layer without piercing it." He readied the instrument in question and pressed it against Gabriel's arm without even bothering to roll his sleeve up. "You may go," he said abruptly, turning away and leaving Gabriel with his injection and a medical instrument history lesson all in under a minute. '

Lt JG Delainey Carlisle - realised that she'd drawn the short straw as a counsellor, in providing the Away Team entertainment by being turned into a full size, real life, live action version of the game 'Buckaroo':
' Delainey entered the transporter room feeling more like a pack mule than a scientist at heart. '

Lt JG Amynta Markos - reminds us why it might be best not to cross her. Ever.
' And remember...as a woman, you forgive but you never forget. '

WO Evan Kell - shows us that the stereotype of people's mistrust for journalists is absolutely........true:
' "I'm Kell. SFI. I follow reporters around," '

Marine Captain Ray Fernandez - admittedly, this sounds worse out of context:
' Ray reached over to touch the Intel officers hand. This is going to look really bad if this doesn't work. He thought to himself. '

CWO Cyrus Kiwosk - mistaken in the idea that there could possibly be anything better than beer in the universe:
' "Oh come on Quinn, you should know that it's got to be better than beer if we're going outside." '

My Favourite Non-Convincing Little White Lie of the month:

Captain Lirha Saalm - in response to someone trying to steal her XO:
' "Congratulations." '

My Favourite Fashion Highlight of the month:

Crewman Neo:
' With little need for a uniform, Neo strode into Scarlet Blake's office clad only in a knit sweater of alien origin and black slacks. The sweater was garish and awful, but it was the warmest thing he owned. Shen really did think she could knit. The ship was cold and Neo had no dignity, so the horribly mismatched, weirdly patterned thing rested over his thin, bony shoulders. '

My Favourite Food Highlight of the month:

Lt Amril & Lt JG Kiri Cho:
' Confidently, he reached out towards the plate, hand moving smoothly, chopsticks neatly grabbing the edges of one of the sushi as he had seen her do, and finally, sending the piece of seaweed-wrapped rice flying towards Kiri. '

My Favourite Personification of an Inanimate Object of the month:

Lt. JG Aria Rice - on the strange sound her shower makes:
' "Consider it her whistling to you to let you know she finds you sexy," '

The 'Wesley Wyndam-Pryce' Comedy Fall of the month:

Lt JG Andreus Kohl & PO1 Keval Graysan:
' As his footing gave out beneath him, Kohl sucked in a desperate, ragged breath. Instinct took hold of Kohl's body as soon as he felt the impact. Rather than fall in the direction Keval's kick was leading him, Kohl used the little leverage he had to hurl himself at Keval, taking the Andorian down with him. There was little skill to his tackle; mostly, Kohl relied on his greater height and broader frame coming down on the leaner man.
Keval's grin faded, though only slightly, he hadn't expected such a quick and effective response to his attack and was totally caught off guard. He fell backwards into the water Kohl's larger body pressed against his as they fell. '

My Favourite Moment of Strength & Spirit of the month:

Lt JG Kestra Orexil:
' There's nothing to do but stare. Stare and feel. There are so many feelings; waves, typhoons, hurricanes of feelings and thoughts. Disorienting. If I listen for too long, I forget which thoughts are mine. So I think. I count. I imagine the katas. I picture the seven steps of Klingon defense. I meditate. Flames. Water. Stones, smoothed by rivers.
They're always there, beating at my consciousness with tiny fists. Frustration. Anger. Love. Hunger. Need. Loneliness. Joy. Amusement. Shyness. Secretiveness. I try to turn my mind away, but I am still. Receiving. Trying to ignore the influx of information as it comes, wave by wave. '
