Weekly Update

Posted on 28 Mar 2012 @ 1:39pm by Rear Admiral Lirha Saalm

There are quite a few updates that I need to cover so please bear with me as this might be a bit lengthy.

Website Updates

Several new sections of the website have been created or updated recently. The first new addition is called the Briefing Room. This is a Wiki page which I've created with the purpose of putting all current mission information into one place, allowing a reader or writer to browse the page and get all of the info they need to accurately post. This will become a VERY IMPORTANT part of the website and is designed to replace the various emails and PMs that I receive asking what is happening on the mission and when. If you have any questions about the current mission, please consult this page first, as your questions are probably answered somewhere in there. The Briefing Room can be found under the USS Galileo tab, under the right-hand subnavigation menu.

The second page is called the Duty Roster. This is not a new page but an existing one which I feel people neglect to reference. The Duty Roster is essentially your character's work schedule. It displays the time and location of your character's duty shifts, as well as who they will be working with. It is a great resource tool to use for planning posts and schedules. The Duty Roster can be found under the Personnel tab, under the right-hand subnavigation menu.

Lastly, I am close to completing the Operations Manual. This is an entire Wiki category devoted to the inner workings of the Galileo, and will be required reading for everyone once it is completed. The information presented is taken from several canon sources and is highly accurate. The Operations Manual can be found under the Starfleet Uplink tab.

Mission Guest Stars

With the beginning of Episode 01 underway, we have several mission-specific VIPs which are essential to the main plot. I have recruited some outside help from the IKS D'ama (OF's only Klingon sim) to help play our two antagonists. Please welcome:

GEN D'Grath, Head of Klingon Intelligence
CAPT K'nara, Klingon Flagship Commanding Officer

Welcome to the Galileo!

We also have two Federation scientist VIPs which will need to be NPCd. If you are interested in the job, please contact me as soon as possible for more information.

Starbase Posts

Our mission briefings are almost finished and we will commence with our Starbase 234 posts. Commander Holliday has given each of you IC instructions and assigned you to teams to complete your tasks. If you have any questions about who your character is working with or what they are supposed to do, please contact him at the earliest opportunity. These posts need to be completed within two weeks so that we can promptly proceed to the next part of the mission.

Required Posts

All characters are required to receive a physical examination with our doctor (Hilyer), as well as have a psychological evaluation with our counselor (McCarthy). These checkups are conducted on a yearly basis, so as long as your character is in good physical and mental health, this only needs to be done once. If, for any reason, either Doctor Hilyer or Lieutenant McCarthy feels that your character needs additional checkups or counseling, it will be discussed IC and OOC and we will work to make a fun subplot out of it.

Recruiting

We have a great crew with us who I personally feel are the best collection of writers I've had the privilege of simming with. I would like to keep this trend going by recruiting for some of our open positions. Of most importance are the four currently vacant department head positions:

= Chief Flight Control Officer (CFCO): Originally known as helm, or Flight Control Officer, CONN incorporates two job, Navigation and flight control. A Flight Control Officer must always be present on the bridge of a starship. S/he plots courses, supervises the computers piloting, corrects any flight deviations and pilots the ship manually when needed. The CFCO is the senior most CONN Officer aboard, serving as a Senior Officer, and chief of the personnel under him/her.

= Chief Security/Tactical Officer (CSTO): The Chief Security/Tactical Officer is called Chief of Security (CSEC). Her/his duty is to ensure the safety of ship and crew. Some take it as their personal duty to protect the Commanding Officer/Executive Officer on away teams. She/he is also responsible for people under arrest and the safety of guests, liked or not. S/he also is a department head and a member of the senior staff, responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters. Security could be called the 24th century police force. The Chief of Security role is combined with the Chief Tactical Officer position.

= Chief Research Officer (CRO): This unique job is similar to that of the Chief Science Officer and performs many of the same duties, however they are primarily responsible for the management and supervision of all ship-wide research and development projects. The CRO is a Department Head position and reports directly to the Command Staff. Other positions are available in most scientific fields, should anyone have the desire to play a more specialized role.

= Chief Diplomatic Officer (CDO): The Chief Diplomatic Officer must be familiar with a variety of areas: history, religion, politics, economics, and military, and understand how they affect potential threats. A wide range of operations can occur in response to these areas and threats. These operations occur within three general states of being: peacetime competition, conflict and war. S/he must be equally flexible and demonstrate initiative, agility, depth, synchronization, and improvisation to provide responsive legal services to his/her Commanding Officer as well a diplomatic advise on current status of an Alien Species both aligned and non aligned to the Federation.

We are always recruiting for other positions as well, but these four primary positions are of high importance. As a crew, we all need to take an interest in the sim and help bring new players into our game. Please use proper etiquette (i.e. no spam or unwanted advertising) and make sure you know the people who you are recruiting. We are an active sim looking for active writers who work well in a team environment. Word-of-mouth is the best recruiting tool, so if you have any friends or colleagues looking for a new sim, please point them our way. Anyone who recruits a player who stays aboard the sim for three months will receive the Recruitment Award and many thanks from all of us.

That is all for now, I will be sending out some more info on our mailing list regarding upcoming crew awards, promotions, and possibly an update to our Sim Rules and Regulations. Let's keep writing and have another great week!
