Azra didn't have an office, per se. That didn't mean that she was without a dedicated workspace. That workspace just happened to be in her quarters. The half-Cardassian woman was fortunate enough to be assigned to Senior Officer's quarters on Deck 4. She'd been aboard for just over a day now. She'd thoroughly reviewed the technical specifications for most of the ship, not to mention the operating documents put together by the shipyards. She felt she was starting to get a handle on where to start developing ship-specific procedures.

Having spent some time onboard the new ship, pacing down the halls and reviewing the ships security and emergency procedures Luke now gathered it was the best time to speak to the onboard Boatswain. He had received news she had recently arrived and out of courtesy gave her a day to adjust but now Luke was ready for business. He had asked the computer to locate his target and it was no surprise that she would be found in her quarters.

Stepping up to her door like a pitcher ready to hit a home run except armed with a PADD Luke breathed in and tapped the door chime, he was a little surprised to have found himself outside a senior officers quarters, how times had changed since he was non-commissioned he thought as he waited.

Azra looked at the small camera view that had appeared at the corner of her console. It identified the visitor as Galileo's security chief. "Computer, pause task tracker." She paused for the acknowledgement from the computer then called out, "Come in."

Luke didn't have to wait long between the door's admittance chirp and the door opening revealing Azra Ghoc on the other side of them. Stepping in he took a quick glance around but not intrusively before he turned his attention to the woman and spoke.

She stood and extended a hand. It was natural for her, after all, she'd grown up on Earth. "Commander, how can I help you?"

"I hope I didn't disturb you chief, I'm hoping to speak to you about some training ideas I have for my department and the ship as a whole in regards to Security and Emergency Procedures, I was hoping you'd help me," Luke said taking her hand and shaking it firmly.

"Take a seat," she said. She brushed a stray strand of hair back into place that had gotten caught on one of her eyebrow ridges as she stood. "I've actually been reviewing Starfleet standards on emergency procedures. I'd planned on reviewing security procedures later in the week, but I'd be happy to start that now. What did you have in mind?"

"Thank you" he said studying the woman as she spoke. The first thing Luke noticed was the ridges, the identifying features of a Cardassian which he knew she was half human half Cardassian from reading her file. She wasn't quite as tall as him with brown hair, pale skin and piercing brown eyes. Her slender figure worked well with what she was wearing, she was pretty Luke thought. "I think we should train everyone from the ground up, even those who are experienced like me department. Start at the basics and get harder every week progressively."

"I believe that our training sessions should be as complete as possible, especially at the beginning." Azra leaned back in her chair, comfortable with what she was talking about. "I believe we should present the crew with a fully fledged emergency situation. That way we'll be able to gauge the level of preparedness each member of the crew has. Additionally, we'll be able to evaluate strengths and weaknesses and target specific training for those who need it."

Although it was more difficult and time-consuming to train individuals and small groups, it was more effective. Azra knew that although short-term efficiency would be negatively impacted when taking members of the crew away from normal duties for training. She also had experienced how long-term and emergency efficiency, meaning efficiency when it was most important, improved with early and intensive small-group training.

“I can get behind that, I’ll have to talk to the Captain and XO but I’m sure I can convince them to give me control for an hour or so, while we run our emergency situation. Do you have anything particularly in mind?” He asked leaning into his chair. Luke already liked the way Azra though and knew that they were going to have quite the friendship.

"We don't need to have control of the entire ship, though that's not a terrible idea. Rather, using a holodeck simulation for training would allow for greater environmental realism. Things like blown bulkheads and the like. It'll also allow us to practice evacuation procedures without broaching the escape pods' sterile environs." Azra had already loaded a program that was a complete reproduction of Galileo into the holodeck systems. It used periodic internal scans to update the simulation, down to the decor on the walls.

"With both holodecks working in tandem, we should be able to perform simulations for between a third and half of the assigned crew aboard. There are a number of likely scenarios in which I think the crew should train." She pulled up the list and sent it to Luke's personal mailbox. "They include boarding scenarios, the ship's imminent destruction, and cascading hull breaches. Although these are hardly common situations, preparation is the key to survival if they do occur."

Luke nodded in complete agreement "I like your thinking. I didn't even think about using the holodecks as a simulation environment. Each of which you stated I can see really helping the crew in the future, we should also add emergency triage for mass casualty and a scenario for the junior officers if the senior officers are unable to take command through disappearance, injury or death."

Azra nodded. One of those scenarios had made it to the list, but the other was one that she hadn't considered. "Good ideas," she added the item to the list of training scenarios, "I also believe that this training will get more investment from the crew if there is incentive for those that do well. I thought that a specialized meal or the like would be beneficial. Perhaps we can pick up a few high-quality ingredients before leaving port."

Luke grinned at the mention of an incentive, "That sounds perfect, I'll put the requisition through the Callisto bar staff for the food. Maybe some decent bottles of liquor would go down well too. We could have a few different awards to give out some serious, some not so just so we can keep the mood competitive but not stressful so, maybe even team competitions?"

Azra frowned slightly, she didn't love the competitive drive many people seemed to have. "Although competitions are a time-honored tactic to improve performance, I'd prefer to build crew unity using an overall score and reward for each of the groups based on the benchmarks we set."

Luke listened to her comments, watching her as she spoke and the nodded "Ok, usually I would disagree and I somewhat do however I am willing to try it your way." He said simply, he respected the woman after all so why not go that little bit further and give her the reigns.

"I'll work up a reward plan and send it over. In the meantime, we should get authorization from Captain Saalm to engage the crew in this training." She tapped out a quick request, signed it and sent it to Luke's inbox for him to sign and send to the captain. "Then it's just a matter of coordinating the details."

"I will get it to the captain before we depart, I have yet to meet with her and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. I look forward to your reward plan and any further recommendations." Luke paused looked as if he was thinking and added. "I also think it will be prudent to involve Master Chief Manzen as he is the most senior NCO into our memo from this meeting."

"Absolutely," Azra agreed. "Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I think this will be a good experience for the crew."

Luke nodded in agreement and settled himself in the chair. There wasn't much else to talk about and decided internally to wrap up the meeting until a later date. "I am glad I did, you've really helped me out here and you're more than right. The crew could do with a good shakeout to clear the cobwebs." He held out his hand for her to shake. "I best be off, again thank you Chief"

"Absolutely. Enjoy the remainder of your afternoon." She stood until he walked through the door. She then sat and resumed her work.
