Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD22 1630

[ON]
Miraj insisted on docking manually, taking comfort in the familiar manoevre, but then she did as Luke had told her, and taken herself to sickbay. She appeared in the door to sickbay, looking bedraggled and beaten. Which she had been.

She was exhausted, and the breif sleep on the shuttle hadnt eased it at all. Her body was stiff and sore from multiple bruisings, and her throat felt like it had been lined with sand paper and it throbbed with every breath and swallow.

"hello?" she called out, voice rasping as she struggled for volume. "I'd like to see a doctor."

Allydnra was short handed so she was filling in extra hours. It was the life of a doctor at times and when she heard the call she left the office in a hurry to see who was calling and beheld a very bedraggled shuttle pilot she had worked with.

"You look like you went three rounds in a bar fight and lost each one," Allyndra quipped while helping Miraj to the nearest biobed.

"Kind of. the rounds were waterfall, jungle beastie and dodgy smugglers. And I kind of did loose all three. If Lieutenant Wyatt hadn't been there." she trailed off, not wanting to think about it.

As soon as Allyndra got her settled and started a quick scan she pressed her comm badge =^=Doctor Qureshi report to sickbay=^- She did not care that he had just gotten off duty half an hour ago, such was the life of a resident and she needed the hands right now.

"On my way," Qureshi managed to choke out. His face was buried in his pillow and his voice was muffled. He hadn't bothered to get undressed (he was just too tired) and was still wearing his uniform. He sat up with a groan to make his way to sickbay.

Allydnra turned her attention back to Miraj. "Smugglers you say? Twins preserve, tell me what happened."

So she did, starting with discovering the landing padd, and the chase through the jungle that resulted in the leap from the waterfall, to the cat like thing, and their brief but unpleasant capture at the hands of the rag tag group. As she spoke, her voice became more and more whispering and raspy and she was pausing more and more often to take a breath.

"Quite an adventure. Surprisingly mostly just bumps, brusies, a few wrenched ligaments but nothing too serious. Alright let me get the regenerator." Allyndra got the dermal and wondered where Qureshi was but that was the least of it.

"So.....what happened to the smugglers and did you report it or is this something I need to sort of keep off record?"

"I'm here," Qureshi said panting from his jog from his quarters. His hair stuck up in a couple places yet other than the slight dark circles under his eyes he looked surprisingly fresh faced for what little sleep he got. "What do you need me to do? Fine needle aspiration cytology on a lymph node? Percutanous biopsy of the liver? Or--oh. Or just lot's of very colourful contusions it seems."

Qureshi eyed Miraj for a moment and wondered how an officer came to such injuries and his brow furrowed. Though he frowned more at the disappointment that it wasn't something cool like petechia. Nope, just bruises. He had managed to catch the tail end of what Allyndra had asked and he turned to her surprised. "We can do that? Keep things off the record?" Qureshi turned to Miraj again and when he met her eyes he looked as if she'd just appeared. It was sometimes hard for the young man to separate patient from injury. He smiled, "I'm Doctor Qureshi, Medical Resident. Sorry, I think I just interrupted you."

"No, not interrupting" Miraj gasped out. Her throat, still raw, was feeling increasingly sore and now she was feelingly dizzingly breathless. "just feel a bit funny."

Allydnra was about to respond to her resident when the monitor started beeping along with Miraj saying she felt breathless along with her voice getting hoarse.

"The vessels are still leaking and the bruising is causing restriction to her airway," Allyndra said to Qureshi.

"Then we need to intubate?" Qureshi asked. He'd done only one since medical school and was interested in getting in more practice.

"With a restriction we probably could not intubate that means tracheotomy. Get a kit and place it, hurry." Allydnra said and went to start working on ameliorating the swelling.

"Right away!" The young man said enthusiastically. He'd never done one of those before and was excited to learn from the CMO. He turned to Miraj and said calmly, "Don't worry, you're in good hands with Doctor Warraquim here." Though he said it more to show Allyndra that he was still trying to work on his bedside manner, for which he was having trouble with still. He hurried off and gathered the supplies they needed for the procedure and placed them on a cart he wheeled over to where the CMO was helping Miraj on a biobed.

Allyndra nodded her chin toward the resident. "You are going to do this one, I will talk you through it. Something you should know. Now the first thing is to find the area over the cricothyroid membrane on her neck. This is the soft spot on the throat where the incision will be made. You find the laryingal prominance. Now slide your finger down from there until you feel another bulge; that is the cricoid cartilage. There is a slight indentation in between the prominance and the cricoid cartilage; this is where the incision will be made." She watched Quershi.

Qureshi went to work. He followed Allyndra's guidance but the skill in his hands as he did the procedure was all him.

Miraj was gasping like a landed fish now, and her eyes were wide as Quershi's fingers probed her neck, and the wild thought that maybe her neck wasn't normal, that boslics differed from humans and she was going to confuse him and end up skewered and bleeding.

Allyndra glanced at the monitor. She would intervene if this took much longer but the resident needed to learn to do this quickly. She kept her voice calm. "Now swab the area with antispectic/anaglesic and then make a 13mm horizontal cut about 13 mm deep. Just below your cut, you'll see the cricothyroid membrane, yes the yellowish elastic membrane located between the surrounding layers of cartilage. Now make an incision on the membrane itself. The depth of the puncture should be just sufficient to gain access to the airway."

"There you go now place the tube in place approximately 5 cm in...." There was sucking sound though the tube as Miraj could get air in and out again.

Allyndra looked at the oxygen monitor and nodded as the oxygenation levels

"Very good doctor, now let's get some anti-inflamatory into that area and get the swelling down." She turned her attention to Miraj and held her hand. "You will be just fine, we can even get rid of the scar once we are certain the swelling has gone down. Shhh....shh......." She looked to Quershi to see if he would catch on to give the pilot a bit anaglesic and anti-anxiety medication.

Miraj squeezed Allydrans fingers. The panicked look had gone from her wide blue eyes as she could breath again. Now she wasn't going to die, she could try and relax with only a local anesthestic between her and agony, and the strange sensation of things in her body without pain.

"We are going to get the swelling down and then should be able to talk if need be. You will have to place a finger over the tube until we get it out." Allyndra explained. "That choking caused more swelling then I thought and might be due to your particular physiology."

The half boslic nodded ever so slightly, not wanting to move or speak and dislodge the tube. Every so often her biology made small irritating complications, she was used to leaving surprised medics in her wake.

It took about half an hour but the swelling had finally gone down and Allyndra figured that Miraj should be able to breath normally again. She removed the tube and then used the regenerators to heal everything up.

"There we go, I do not think hardly anyone will see anything. How are you feelings?" Allyndra asked. She wanted Miraj to get her cords working again.

"Better," Miraj rasped. Her throat felt like it was being scrubbed down with holy stone, but she was breathing easily again. "I need some water."

"That we can do," Allyndra laughed easily. She went to fetch the glass of water and then brought it back and helped the pilot sit up and reminded her to block the tube and go slow.

Allydnra herself removed the tube once the danger was past and with delicate moves healed the area and nodded. "Unless someone looks really close I don't think anyone will know it is even there. Now get some rest and we can let you go."

Miraj nodded and lay back. A moment later, exhausted from the last forty-eight hours of near death experience she was fast asleep.
