Mission: Episode 05 - Solstice
Location: USS Galileo - Sickbay
Timeline: MD29 - 2000

ON:

Allyndra could smell the newness of the place. It looked almost identical to the old sickbay but everything had been freshened up and made pretty. New equipment had been installed the beds updated.

That was where she was currently, by biobed four and she frowned as she craned her head to look at the readings. She shifted off the bed and looked harder at the readings the bed had given her and then slipped a panel off the lower part to the workings. She fussed with the calibrations for a bit, but they were clearly different than what she was used to. A few more minutes of rechecking her readings and she gave up.

=^=Allyndra here. Is there anyone in Engineering available yet?=^=

=^=Ack!... I mean, yes'm.=^= The voice on the other end sounded frazzled, and cramped. =^=Lieutenant Asahi Kita, your engineer for the day.=^=

The engineer in question had crammed himself in another jeffries tube, re-routing wires and recalibrating consoles for energy hook-ups when his comm badge went off. So, as expected, his order of social operations seemed a little off, tapping the badge before he decided to straighten himself out to answer.

=^=Don't worry... ah, ma'am, I'm fully qualified to be tinkering in the depths of even the most challenging of malfunctions and woes.=^= He grinned. =^=What seems to be the problem?=^=

Allyndra heard the stress in the words and she felt bad. Things were probably really busy for the few around but she had asked and someone had responded.

=^=Well nothing critical, at least until I get patients, but I have tried re-calibrating biobed three and unless there is something unusual one of my heats have stopped. The other beds say I am fine.=^=

By the time Allyndra had explained the issue, Asahi had crawled out of the jeffries tube and was on his way to sickbay. =^=Doesn't sound like it's going to take all that long, I can run down pretty quick. Wouldn't want something like that to slip by in a month, when everyone's busy getting everything settled for deployment.=^=

He was grateful the lifts were working at this point, so the trip to sickbay didn't take all that long. He beamed at the sole occupant. "Very nice to finally put a face to a name, ma'am~"

"Oh please Allyndra. I am not much into all those titles having lived with plenty over my life." She smiled at the short man that presented himself. "My sickbay, my rules," she winked.

"Anyway, I hope I did not take you away from anything really important..." she had to remember the name from the communicator, "Asahi." She knitted her brows, "I hope that does not offend you?"

Asahi smiled, before nodding. "Yes'm." Hooking his thumb into his work belt, the engineer rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Nah, not really. I'm just busy finishing up some things before I run off to another planet... ah, Allyndra. No offense either. I'm the same with most of the engineering crew... or I would be if I could meet most of them."

Chuckling, he shrugged. "So, where's the sick and ailing biobed?"

"Right this way, number three. I tried some simple recalibration but it seems a bit out of whack. It keeps trying to tell me the right flight heart is not working. I am pretty sure I would know otherwise and the other beds agree with my own diagnosis. Mind if I watch? Always fascinated with how things work."

Asahi followed behind Allyndra, nodding along as he pulled out a spanner from his belt. "Have you tried other tests with it? Or is it just the heart readings? Sounds like it might just be a calibration error in number three. Maybe something in the installation process..." He trailed off, before giving a pause and a nod. "Not at all. I like it when people watch the magic happen."

"I use myself as a test and so far so good on most things. There are not too many of us Akkadians in Fleet so if things work with me, should be a good test. Long answer, I know but just missing my right flight heart reading."

She knelt to watch Asahi work. She doubted she could what he did with such quick grace and precision. It was like watching a surgeon at work and she appreciated the skill and training that went into knowing exactly what to do and where. He turned and gave a nod and Allyndra straightened and got onto the bed.

The readings sprang to life and with that strange syncopated beat it registered her three hearts. "PERFECT!" she exclaimed.

And Asahi's work was as swift and precise as expected. After the small panel was popped off, he had fiddled with a pair of wires, taped one up, moved it a certain direction, and the biobed was in working order again. "... Not a calibration error, dead wire." He swiftly unhooked the offending piece of material, replacing it with a new wire of the same color, and glanced up at the Akkadian doctor again. "Whoever installed these didn't bother checking the condition of their wires." As he continued his babble, he popped the paneling back on. "But, it shouldn't cause anymore issues. If the other beds are reading them all... then I don't foresee a whole lot of issues with 'em."

A near-shining smile appeared on his features. "And, if it's not too forward of me to say, but you're the first Akkadian I've met."

Allyndra laughed and then made a full curtsey. "Thank you sir, and yes not many off world. Perhaps someday but for now a rarity." She straightened again and waved at him as he headed out the door.
