Galileo Log One

411 words; about a 2 minute read

Marisa walked around her new office, adjusting her 3-D images of Mount Seleya and Mount Illimani, representing the two worlds she came from. They were a reminder of who she was, and what she owed to the past. There was also a couch and comfortable chair by a small bookcase for her to study--or sleep--if needed. If the past was any indication, there would be times when she would work late and end up sleeping on the couch rather than go back to her quarters. But since she didn't have to share her office, she had that option. Satisfied, smiling, she sat at her desk. "Computer, open log."

When the computer chirped its readiness, she took a deep breath and began. "This is my first log aboard the USS Galileo-A. It's been a few years since I worked in science. At first, I wasn't sure if I how I felt about the change, but I have to admit, after a trip to Mirzcek III and then a short assignment aboard the USS Schofield, I'm excited about the prospect. Science was my first love, but I also enjoyed helping people.

"It may not have been good for my career to jump between two disciplines, but I enjoy the variety. Or I did. Until the events on Kreanus, a planet in the Poulson Nebula. Now, I can no longer work as a counselor in Starfleet. At first I was angry about it, but I've got a renewed this to explore and find new information about old worlds and ancient civilizations."

Actually, it was the Schofield that brought her back to herself. That helped her get over the last of her resentment and anger. That helped her realize that science was really where she belonged. And a certain Commander who liked fresh fish. She looked forward to his thoughts on what she'd sone so far. That made her smile. "All my logs from the Cartagena to now are gone, and so I begin again. I hope to do a better job with these logs from now on. For now, I'm setting up the department and creating a network of fish tanks to breed fish for the lounge. We'll see how it goes."

She pushed a button to end her log and leaned back in her chair. This trip was a new beginning in so many ways. She hoped it would be a good one.
