Description		Stardate: 68480.9 Location: USS Schofield, Pleonie System Scientists at the Daystrom Institute have discovered a star which seems to be in the initial stages of becoming a Cepheid variable. The scientists wish to have a field study of the star, and an old science ship, USS Schofield, is coming into Avondale Shipyards for decommissioning. Starfleet Command decides that with an aging vessel on hand and a seasoned starship crew, that a prime opportunity exists to utilize both. The majority of USS Galileo's crew are transferred to the Schofield and sent to investigate the stellar phenomenon. Upon arrival, the crew discovers a pre-warp civilization along with a highly advanced alien artifact that was keeping the star stable. Mission Focus: Exploration, Rescue Mission Length: Short

Mission Summary

The Daystrom Institute has been monitoring a star in the Borderlands area near the Celendi Nebula which seems to be in the initial stages of becoming a Cepheid variable. The scientists wish to acquire field data and pressure Starfleet Command to send a vessel to investigate. However, with no available crew and starship readily on-hand, Command realizes they have an old science ship returning to port -- the USS Schofield. Scheduled for decommissioning at Avondale Shipyards, Fleet Command postpones the aging Oberth-class' retirement and assigns most of the new USS Galileo-A crew to Schofield in order to gather the requested data.

Upon arriving in the Pleione system in the Borderlands near the Celendi Nebula, the crew of USS Schofield discover one of the planets is inhabited by a pre-warp civilization. The star has had several flares which, so far, have not hit the planet directly, but with the continued activity of the star, the civilization will be doomed. The Prime Directive does not allow the crew to interfere, but an away team is sent to gather data on the civilization for posterity.
