Personality & Traits
General Overview | While part-Vulcan, Cameron lacks the stoic demeanor commonly found in Vulcans. Instead, he comes across as someone who is very relaxed, speaking normally, and exhibiting facial features that could be construed as an emotional response. Like traditional Vulcans, however, Cameron is in control of his emotional state at all times. He is approachable and generally prefers the company of others. A result of Cameron’s failed attempt to mind-meld with Aren Markussen resulted in a mental impression of her psyche, which he believes is her Katra, transplanting itself into his own mind. While this impression is not a perfect representation of the original Aren, as Cameron’s own opinion and feelings regarding her has managed to intertwine with it, it is a close approximation. Aren periodically appears as an apparition of his consciousness that only he can see or hear, frequently interacting with Cameron as though she were still alive and real. |
|
Strengths | Cameron has spent most of his career in Starfleet in an Engineering capacity, working on everything from a ship’s main computer to the warp core. His “jack of all trades” approach makes him competent in dealing with most minor to moderate issues. Even as a Rish-tor veh, Cameron possesses a Vulcan-ish sense of calm even under times of crisis or danger. It takes a lot in order to get under his skin to such a degree that it begins to affect his judgement and composure. |
|
Weaknesses | Partly due to his mixed-heritage, partly due to the fact that he spent his adolescence away from Vulcan’s superior educational system, Cameron possesses average intelligence comparable to that of most humanoid races. Cameron possesses a mental imprint of a Selkie woman whom, when she’d been alive, was called Aren Markussen. While similar incidents have been recorded throughout Vulcan history, it is strictly affirmed that the impression must be purged with expedience so as to avoid would-be harm to the so-called host. Cameron has been unable to do so, despite the fact that Aren’s presence has introduced an unstable element to his control. |
|
Ambitions | At this time, Cameron has been a Starfleet Officer for too short a time to possess any long-term career ambitions. He wants to be a good officer, and prove his worth. That is about all there is.
Hobbies & Interests | Two-Dimensional Chess, Texas Hold’em Poker, Reading & Writing, Music - Trumpet Instrument.
Vernacular | Cameron speaks with a vernacular more common to someone who is extremely relaxed or serene, lacking the measured dialect of typical Vulcan speech.
Orientation | Heterosexual
Language(s) Spoken | Federation Standard, Xenexian, Vulcan |
Personal History | Cameron was conceived during an unconventional Pon Farr mating ritual between his Vulcan father, Vadek, and his Xenexian mother, Shereen. Vadek worked as a relief worker on Xenex during the Xenexian war for independence against the Dentari occupation, where he became acquainted with Shereen who worked as a triage nurse at a nearby hospital. While Vadek had anticipated on returning to Vulcan once his symptoms began to manifest in order to complete the ritual with his chosen mate, an embargo of the planet had recently been implemented by the Dentari authority, both to prevent Xenexian refugees from escaping, and to keep weapons intended for Xenexian rebels from reaching them. By the time it was possible for a ship to bring Vadek back to Vulcan, he was already in the advanced stages of Pon Farr, and wouldn’t survive the transit. In a last ditch effort to save his life, Shereen spent the night with Vadek. A short time later, Vadek returned to the Vulcan home world and never returned to Xenex. Eight months later, Cameron was born. He lived on Xenex for most of his childhood, where life was particularly dangerous for a Xenexian-Vulcan hybrid. The Dentari hated him because he was half-Xenexian, and there was always the risk that a Xenexian resistance cell might take him as a hostage in order to garner Federation aid for their cause. When Cameron turned seventeen, his mother chose to send him to live with his father, so that he would be safe. There, he was ostracized by other Vulcans due to his meager formal education as well as a lack of emotional control. Cameron was made to join a Vulcan program called “Vuhnaya svi' ozhika” (Diversity in Logic) specifically designed to instruct “Rish-tor veh” (Mixed Ones), multi-heritage children like Cameron in the way of logic, intellect, and control, where he managed to achieve the Venlinahr at the age of fifty-two. Cameron chose to apply for Starfleet Academy a short time later. |

Starfleet History | Cameron attended Starfleet Academy in San Francisco, Earth. He had initially pursued a focus in science, but decided to change to engineering when it became obvious that he comprehended drive mechanics and warp propulsion theory better than how the genome of a Bolian mud beetle had evolved over several millennia. His third and fourth year cadet cruise was served aboard the Norway-class Sevastopol, where he befriended a fellow cadet, Aren Markussen, a twenty-something Selki woman whom joined Starfleet to escape the strict social norms of her species. Aren Markussen proved to be a good friend whose own life experiences allowed her to help Cameron navigate a sort of balance between his dual identity as a Xenexian and a Vulcan, encouraging him whenever he needed it. The Sevastopol was assigned to the Cardassian demilitarized zone, providing humanitarian assistance by ferrying food, medicine, and technology to suffering colonies along the rim. While it’s mission was peaceful, the Sevastopol was forced to defend itself on certain occasions against rogue or former elements of the Cardassian military who either wanted those provisions for themselves, or merely sought to retaliate against Starfleet which they regarded as an occupational force. During one such attack in 2385, Aren was fatally wounded and died in Cameron’s arms. Without being fully aware of his own actions, he initiated a mind-meld with her before she expired. But the connection was tenuous and dangerously unstable given his lack of practice and inter-species heritage, and Cameron experienced a seizure after the attempt appeared to fail. He woke up later in sickbay, and soon realized that he was no longer alone in his mind, however. Somehow, a fragment of Aren’s identity had seeped into his subconscious, causing it to manifest itself in the form of an illusion. He failed to report this experience to the Chief of Medical or a counselor. After graduating from the academy, Cameron spent three years on Luna, working as a station engineer, when the Chief of Operations slot aboard the USS Galileo opened up. Encouraged by the possibility of receiving a more worthwhile duty assignment, he applied for a transfer. |
