Personality & Traits

General Overview Dorian has always been a somewhat quiet and intense man, but when he speaks, it’s usually worth something. He has a quiet resilience about him and is the kind of man who can just get on with a task he’s been given without making an issue or fuss. Focussed and determined, he’ll always achieve what he’s put his mind to...one way or another. Despite his quiet, intense nature, he does have a temper on him, and when he loses it, he loses it fully. He is a sharp man, able to see into people well. He doesn’t like being lied to and can’t stand it when people try and manipulate him because he can see through it. He speaks plainly and matter of factly, even to patients when he thinks they might be in denial or need a wake up call.

He had difficulty coming to terms with his disease and the remaining implants left in his body, but he tried to maintain an optimistic overview and now takes one day at a time when the symptoms play up. This can lead to him being tired and quiet at times, but he rarely misses work. In fact, he tends to bury himself in it, having become something of a workaholic.

The hang over from being a security officer has kept him alert and not the average counsellor. He works out a lot, keeps himself fit and keeps up his old training.
Strengths Determined, focussed, quick minded, intelligent, adaptable, decisive, able to get a job done with minimum fuss.
Weaknesses He can be a little quiet and intense, often over thinking things, blunt, straight forward, doesn’t believe in sugarcoating the truth, work-a-holic, has symptoms from his disease and implants that can cause occasional intermittent physical problems.
Ambitions For the time being, Dorian is taking life a day at a time. He puts a lot of effort into keeping himself fit and healthy for a long career.
Hobbies & Interests Working out, running, shooting, swimming, reading, writing, holonovels, guitar, cooking from scratch, motorbikes and hoverbikes.
Vernacular Has a soft English accent, speaks with a clear tone that can be somewhat clipped.
Orientation Bisexual
Language(s) Spoken Federation Standard, Cardassian

Personal History Dorian was given to a Catholic orphanage in London, England, Earth when he was a few days old. He didn’t even have a name, so the Priest there named him after one of his favourite novels. His parents were never traced and the orphanage didn’t put time or effort into the task as they believed in concentrating on the future for their children and not the past.

His upbringing there was simple, tough and character building, to use a phrase Dorian has since taken on. Families came and went but no one adopted him, leaving him to a life being raised in the orphanage rather than ever having a family.

He was a somewhat serious and intense child and teenager, silent a lot of the time, reading and writing by himself, but when he lost his temper, he really lost it. He was intelligent and quick to learn though, achieving high marks academically and proving to be a good athlete too, but as he reached 16 he knew his time at the orphanage was up and he needed a way to support himself.

With high academic marks behind him, he hoped that Starfleet would accept him and offer the stability he wanted. When he applied, he was told that he was still too young, but they would consider his application when he turned 17. For a year, Dorian supported himself with a string of rubbish, low grade jobs that left him between sleeping rough or living in run down, tiny rooms. The day he turned 17, he applied again, and this time, they gave him a chance.
Starfleet History After proving his physical stamina as well as his academic abilities, Dorian was selected for Security and Tactical training, a department where both skill sets would be utilised. He found the gruelling physical and combat training tough and stressful but he got through it, finding that his intensity made it easier to focus on a target or goal and not to let it go. The determined attitude got him noticed and he was offered extra training. He took the combat psychology option, despite it being more academic in nature.

He graduated at the age of 21, and with a good record behind him he was stationed on a combat ready ship. It was often hard work, but he got through it a mission at a time...sometimes just a day at a time when it was really bad. There was a lot of rebuilding and pockets of conflict to settle in the years after the Dominion War and his ship was often on the ‘front lines’ of such work.

He served for a few more years, earning promotion and awards for his service, until a difficult mission went wrong. They were sent to investigate a base on a colony where intel had suggested that illegal medical experimentation was taking place. The team were hit hard and walked into more than one trap. It became apparent that they knew they were coming. He was knocked unconscious by an explosion, and when he woke up, he’d been captured. It became evident that he wasn’t the only one.

They were kept for a number of weeks, and became test subjects. He wasn’t sure what they were doing to him, but only that he was feeling sicker and more detached by the day.

The base was finally raided and they were taken back to Starfleet Medical. They all had different things done to them and in different stages. He had been fitted with a number of implants and been given a modified strain of Faelon Disease. Dorian was in shock. Injuries were a part of the job...this was not. They managed to remove most of the implants, apart from a few that were too dangerous to interfere with, but they seemed to leave him with nothing but interference with his normal functioning, and the Faelon Disease was incurable. If left untreated, it would be fatal, however they were able to formulate daily medication doses that would need to be taken for the rest of his life to deal with the symptoms and halt the progress of the disease from going much further.

Dorian was considered too ‘damaged’ to put back into a combative role, so he was given a choice...take a desk job or retrain. With his extra training he was offered a fast track course in Counselling. Rather than sit behind a desk in security, he chose to become a Counsellor.

He was somewhat distant and distracted during retraining, coming to terms with the foreign implants and the interference they sometimes gave in his body’s functions, as well as the Faelon Disease he was learning to manage. He succeeded though, refusing to be put on the shelf entirely with nothing to do but ruminate.

His internship as an Ensign was served on the USS Arton and two years later he was promoted to a fully independent Lieutenant JG Counsellor. After a year on the USS Raleigh, he was transferred to the USS Galileo
Medical History After the medical experimentation on him, most of the implants have been removed apart from a few that were too dangerous to tamper with. They can cause occasional disruption to his body’s functions, sometimes causing things like a stutter, or a missed target to place something down, or a leg buckling. He’s also developed an intermittent tremor in his left arm.

The Faelon Disease is not infectious but is also incurable at this time. Untreated it would be fatal, however, the progress of the disease and the symptoms are manageable with the use of medications that he takes daily. There are times when it does affect him, but he is usually able to work through it. For these reasons, he is required to have a medical check-up at least once every two weeks.
