Personal History Vincent Nathaniel Kramer (Vince to his family and friends)

Kramer grew up in New York City , just 4 blocks from Central Park. He is the youngest of 4 brothers. His parents believed strongly in musical talent and excellence. Each member of the family was expected to be able to play diverse instruments. Kramer received classic instruction as a boy on the violin, piano, and harp. Though he could play well, it was too “mechanical” for his father. His father said he just didn’t have the heart for it.

As a boy he was always picking up rocks and bringing them home. On many occasions he was found looking at rock samples and putting acids on them to see their reaction. He had boxes of rocks hidden in his closet. For many years his father ignored and put up with this “silly hobby”.

Each brother had gone on to professions and artistic endeavors. Vince didn’t fit that mold. He was more interested in the world beneath him. From a very young age he read constantly; mostly science periodicals and about the solar system and how it was formed.

In addition to applying Harvard University School of Music in Cambridge , Kramer also applied to Starfleet Academy , but not with the blessings of his father. His father thought there were more important things than to “be jumping around the stars”.
Starfleet History Kramer was accepted to Starfleet Academy. At the Academy Kramer did well for himself. He had some friends, but no close friendships. His free time was mostly spent in the library or in a science lab studing mineral samples from all over the Galaxy.

After Kramer completed Starfleet Academy, his first posting was a Survey ship, USS Morgan. Here he was able to help log in detailed descriptions of planetary systems that had been identified, but never studied in detail.

He then had the opportunity to be part of the crew of the USS Venture, a Galaxy Class starship. The facilities aboard ship were so much more advanced, yet the opportunity to go and be part of something that related to his area of study was very limited.

Ensign Kramer finally received his promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade and transferred to the USS Avalon, a Pendragon Class Starship, as the Asst. Chief Science Officer. The Avalon then proceeded on a 1 year exploration mission.

Upon return to Starfleet Command, Vincent chose to leave Starfleet and return to the University. After a few years he received his Doctorate in planitary science.

From time to time he was asked to add his knowledge on expeditions for the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet.
